COL Howard is in very good company on the hill... Jimmy Doolittle is next to him, as is another MoH Recipient named Foss. I'm sure they'll be swapping all kinds of tales...

FNG here, exploring this site, and noticed this thread. I met Bob Howard aboard a C-12, flying to Ft. Campbell from Ft. Benning, to welcome the 101st home from Vietnam. (April, 1972) I was in IOAC at the time, and was asked to be part of the Benning group because I had served in the Division in Vietnam. I was honored to finally meet him, and get to know him a little. He was a great man.

B 2/75 5 March 2017 08:44

It's been seven years since COL Howard's last mission.

Rest in Peace, Sir. Never Forgotten.

RIP Colonel. One of the best military books I ever read was SOG, authored by John Plaster in the late 90's. Colonel Howard was mentioned numerous times.

Glebo 7 March 2017 08:59

RIP Good Sir. He was the Camp Commandant when I went through PHI SFQC....lets just say it was very interesting. He was nominated like three times for the MOH.

Let's just say, you didn't want to fuck with him, even in the later yrs....

DOL SIR...SALUTE

Dangerous 7 March 2017 22:19

He "mentored" me through Phase I as well. He did have a way to motivate warriors... I had several interactions in his retirement and he was still a presence to reckon with.

Rest in Peace, Sir.
