MSG Williams' Silver Star from an April 2008 battle has been upgraded to the Medal of Honor. MSG Williams is the [URL="https://www.socnet.com/showthread.php?t=133182"]second soldier [/URL]to receive the Medal from that battle.

The battle took place April 6, 2008 in Shok Valley, Afghanistan, during a joint U.S.-Afghan raid to kill or capture Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of the former Hezebela Islami Gulbadin militia that is now an Afghan political party following a peace agreement.

MSG Williams will receive the medal in a 30 October ceremony.
