Not a great movie by any means, in fact many parts of it are downright stupid.

But it's got some of the greatest character actors of their generation in it, especially Warren Oates, Harry Dean Stanton and Ben Johnson as Melvin Purvis, portraying him in a manner that was the complete opposite of Purvis, who was actually pretty incompetent.

But even below par movies sometimes have great scenes in them, and Dillinger has one of my all time favorites when Harry Dean Stanton, as Homer Van Meter, gets gunned down in the middle of of the street, surrounded in a half circle by 14 armed townspeople.

This scene definitely has the John Milius touch.
"This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who!"
