My sincere hope is that some unranked team with a losing record upsets the Tide, agonyea. With any luck it will happen at a point in the season where another, more capable team can give them another loss.

In a perfect world Alabama would lose their last game of the season by a wide margin and drop out of the "playoff" picture. Although given the committees cult like devotion to Alabama and Saban, it might be too much to ask.

When it comes to the college game, I guess I have what might be called an anti-rooting interest. If they're ranked in the top 5 I want them to lose every week.

For me, it's more like anti-dynasty. I always pull for the underdog. Like Appalachian State beating Michigan a few years ago. What I really like to see is a new team in the polls. Seeing Alabama every year gets old, just like it did when it was FSU and Miami and Nebraska. Great teams, but there is no drama in it.

The small Marshall University team beat Miami in a close game. 2 Special tms TD's.

Was that when Randy Moss was there? He single-handedly put Marshall in the polls. Kind of like when Brees brought Purdue to the Rose Bowl.

I thought this was an interesting story. Nice to see a parent doing parent-stuff. The jaded part of me can't help wondering if there isn't more to the story...

I wasn't expecting a comeback and I'm glad I didn't give up on them. The QB finally settled down and one of the receivers stepped up big time. That defense though, damn.

My weekend was a mixed bag:

One alma mater won big (Duke, 60-7) over the other city college

Once alma mater imploded spectacularly in epic fashion (ECU vs D2 JMU)

But UNC lost and NC State lost, so all in all a decent weekend

Yesterday I learned that Jake Olson, USC's backup long snapper, is blind.

Yeah, feel good story and all.

Here's the youtube version of the play.

I'm glad they put him in, but a truly inspirational moment is if the teams let the play go on as usual.

Otherwise, this is just a Lifetime/Oxygen moment.

OK, off the grumpy guy soap box.

They were doing that before the end of the first quarter. How confident are you really in his long term success potential?

I was following the blogs during the game and it was ugly. Butch has been a major improvement but he's not going to compete for the national championship or even win the SEC. The big question is whether or not the university is content with 8-9 wins a year or do they want to take it to the next level? He has three years left on his contract and they may be leery of a buyout. Plus, the last few coaching searches have been a disaster. Shoop has been a huge disappointment at defensive coordinator. I thought he was a steal last year when they lured him away from other schools, but the defense has been horrendous. They gave up the most rushing yards in team history last night and it wasn't even against a powerhouse.

Until they pay for a BIG name coach to come here, it's going to be more of the same 8-9 wins a year just like TN Dave says. Our fan base is brutal too. Unfortunately many of them are idiots as well and don't know shit about football.

BUT, our campus has a lot of hot chicks so there's that.....
