Not only that but the UN Chief Inspector Tero Varjoranta announced his resignation 3 days after the withdrawal, to be replaced by Massimo Aparo, former head of the UN Iran Task Force.

So, did Iran sabotage the SA tankers, or no? When's the war start?

So, I deployed to the Gulf back in the 80's because Iran was fucking with tankers. We re flagged them, escorted them, yadda yadda yadda, didn't really do much about it.

And here we are, 30 something years later, same shit, different day.

Can't we either solve the problem, or leave it for the locals to figure it out?

Of course they did. Surely nobody would have enough of an interest in provoking a war everyone seems to want.

Nope, the Saudis would have nothing to gain at all.

The US Intel community that suddenly has POTUS breathing down their necks with an FBI special prosecutor would have no reason at all to make themselves suddenly much more needed by the West Wing denizens.

Surely the Mossad are just disinterested observers.

The UAE and Kuwait make a whole lot of money off US.gov customers, and what better way to have a whole lot more of them with a whole lot more money to spend than a influx of Americans who've come to make Hormuz safe for UAE and Kuwaiti oil tankers?

The Iranians have been begging for this fight forever, so maybe tanker sabotage was the card they had to play to bring on a fight that exported EFP bombs never could? Outside of maybe North Korea, there isn't another country on earth likely to stir up less protests against the USA bombing them beyond the usual suspects of the hate America crowd and the hate Trump crowd, so if anyone in the Pentagon or even POTUS himself had aspirations to military glory, the Iranians make for a popular enemy.

The Russians could make serious bank off an Iranian panic buying spree of air defense systems.

At this point, so many people have an interest in seeing the USA and Iran go to war that figuring out who sabotaged those tankers could be as complicated as figuring out who the murderer was in the old Pink Panther movie A Shot in the Dark.

I dont think he will go to BOG war quite yet, but I do foresee him slapping the shit out of Iran via missile strikes and bombs. I do also think he will demand some active participation/support from Iran's neighbors as a pre-condition of our involvement.

I don't see Iran taking their lumps without response. They have numerous options, and in the end of the day I don't think anyone who's in a position to participate really wants to. From targeted assassinations around the world, to terror attacks, to flipping the hizbullah 'on' switch, to cyber attacks, to....

Iran needs to lose a short, sharp naval war. And quickly.

Only one problem...who is going to quickly win a short, sharp naval war?

Iran's navy and air force against the USA and whoever decides to throw in with us--yeah, let me know when the dust clears from the mushroom cloud so I can tune in to FOX News and watch video feeds of workers sifting through the ruble of Tehran while checking radiation levels...

Lol @ everyone thinking/assuming the war would actually be fought with any semblance of how it should be fought, and would not be just another stupid fucking boondoggle with thousands of American lives lost for the sake of third party interests.

People our age still hold a grudge against Iran from the hostage crisis and the chicanery of the 80's. The youngsters mostly don't. Or don't care. I'd say public support for smacking Iran is going to be limited.
