Major John Kendrick Murphy

Copied and pasted from a closed FB veterans group that keeps a daily record of death's during the Bush War. Several US citizens served with us back in the day. As a Marine I thought perhaps this warrior may have former colleagues here

We stand to attention and salute 79000717PN Major John Kendrick Murphy from 1 Reconnaissance Regiment (former member of the United States Marine Corps, Rhodesian Light Infantry, Special Air Service and Selous Scouts) who was accidentally killed on 20 October 1980 when his parachute failed during a practice training jump at Westonaria. Major Murphy was an American Citizen and his mortal remains were later repatriated back to the United States for burial. He now rests in the Ponte Vedra Beach Cemetery, St. Johns County, Florida, USA. He was 37.

His name and sacrifice has not been forgotten."

Interesting historical note: His father is LTC John Kendrick Murphy, Sr., and is interred in Arlington. He died in Jacksonville in 1959 at age 42.
