EOD Memorial Weekend

Not my original post but I wanted to share it.

This weekend (May 3rd) the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community will honor the eternal memory and ultimate sacrifices of 16 EOD technicians who were killed in action in 2012. The names of these brave men will be added to the EOD Memorial Wall in Eglin Air Force Base, FL. The additions this year increases the total names on the wall to 303 EOD personnel who have died in the line of duty since the declaration of World War II in 1942; 126 of them since September 11, 2001.

While we pay tribute to those whose names will be added this year we will also be remembering the bravery of all of the courageous heroes whose names were engraved on the wall before them. All of their selfless acts of valor saved countless lives.

The names of the 16 Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen who will be added to the memorial this year are:

>>> ARMY <<<
SSG Nicholas J. Reid, 26, 12/2012
SSG Kenneth W. Bennett, 26, 11/2012
SSG Jonathan P. Schmidt, 28, 09/2012
SSG Eric S. Holman, 39, 08/2012
SSG Israel P. Nuanes, 38, 05/2012

>>> MARINE CORPS <<<
SSGT Sky R. Mote, 27, 08/2012
SGT John P. Huling, 25, 05/2012
SSGT Joseph H. Fankhauser, 30, 04/2012
SSGT Joseph D’Augustine, 29, 03/2012

>>> NAVY <<<
EOD1 Sean P. Carson, 32, 08/2012
LT Christopher E. Mosko, 28, 04/2012
EOD2 Taylor J. Gallant, 22, 01/2012
EOD1 Chad R. Regelin, 24, 01/2012

>>> AIR FORCE <<<
SRA Bryan R. Bell, 23, 01/2012
A1C Matthew R. Seidler, 24, 01/2012
TSGT Matthew S. Schwartz, 34, 01/2012

Their sacrifices will always be remembered. May they all rest in peace.

The Joint service EOD community continues to pay a heavy price supporting the Global War on Terror. This weekend I will celebrate the memory of these men and their often extraordinary accomplishments on the battlefield.

bmf...maybe a stupid question, but is this the Ball and annual auction as well, or just the dedication?

No worries. Even if you can't make it, please celebrate the memory of some of the finest volunteers in American history.

I'll probably 'no shit' shed a tear later this weekend. I'm ok with that.

I used to hang out with the Hurlburt AFSOC EOD crew back in the 90s... Those guys were absolutely INSANE! (I like that in my Bombkickers).

I hope and pray you all have a safe, DUI/Drama free weekend!

Initial Success!

MSG James "Duke" Austin, you will not be forgotten.

Once in Vietnam, most of what was learned in EOD school went out the window. Top taught me and many others how to survive in theater and in life.

Tonight I'll raise a glass to him and all those who have paid the ultimate price of freedom.

I didn't make it to Eglin AFB this year for the EOD Memorial event's, but planned to be there next year. Hopefully and I pray there will be no more names added to the memorial next year.
