Hmm, I recall in PLDC (some years ago) a dame showed up with a XM-16(Don't remember if the "X" was stamped on the receiver or if I hyped the story and remember it as a war story...), early version with no forward assist..

My now Ex-Boss at FL Dept of Corrections is also an AF Reserve type who drills outta one of the aux. fields at Eglin. His unit, a part of AFSOC, recently turned in their M16's several of which had four-digit serial numbers in exchange for M4s... He maintains that this was a no-shit story.

I must be old because I can relate to all of them. Guess I am real old. Rember Col Rowe and the SERE instructor course. It was too hard and they had to make the other courses.

We were at the range Thursday and during brass call one of the Marines found a round ball that looked just like a musket ball. Of course he turned right to me. "Top, didn't you do brass call during the Civil War? I think this is yours."

You are old school if you had a P38 on your dogtag chain.
If you do not know what a P38 is... you are not old school.

I went to the courthouse in SLC a while back, and the Officer manning the metal detector made me take it off my keychain, I hid it outside and was sweating a little thinking about losing that tiny piece of metal. Crazy huh?

I used it two days ago, I opened a can of soup for a woman in our lunchroom, the regular can opener had gone missing. She didn't think it would open the can, but it still works, 23 years after I got it. Pretty good industrial design effort on whoever thought of it.

I've had one on my keychain since I pulled it out of a box of C-Rats in 1983.

If ya look real close, they fold up.

In other news, the PRC-77 was too high-speed for the Corps, when you absolutely couldn't reach any-god-damn one nothing beat the PRC-25.

Oh, I'd fold it alright. And five minutes later, like magic, it would pop back open and stab me again. At one point I looked like I got stabbed in the chest with 20+ thumbtacks. Being a hard-headed PFC (and conviced that a P38 would make me look cool) I left it around my neck for at least 2 or 3 weeks before I took it off my dog tag chain.

I've seen the PRC-25 once in my career. The navy was using it on the USS Tuscaloosa out of Pearl Harbor for comms with the shore boats. I actually borrowed it and took it back to troop berthing to show my Marines. They weren't as impressed as I was, but then most of them had never seen a PRC-77 either. :D
