Mental Health Professionals

After years of witnessing countless Marine suicides, I was inspired to leave police work to become a mental health professional. I'm currently attending a two year social work program, with the intention of eventually becoming a License Clinical Social Worker. I am specializing in mental health, particularly relating to veterans. I have my internship for my second year slated at the VA in my city, to be get some more tangible experience. I was curious if there are any other clinicians, or clinician hopefuls, on SOCNET.

SOCNET has more folks with 2 and three letter medical acronyms than you can shake your dirty syringe at.

Welcome to SOCNET!

What school/program are you enrolled in? I am about to retire, and looking at options along those lines in the PNW.

That's pretty awesome that you're stepping up like that. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the replies gents. I am about a quarter of the way through a two year program. The first year is generalist and the second is focused. Social work is pretty broad and there are a lot of options. The first year can be a little unnerving, when immersed in community practice granola eaters.
My overall goal is therapy with veterans. Whatever form that may taken.

Gavin, I would recommend the MSW program through George Fox University. Classes are at the Portland campus, which is near Tigard. I would be happy to walk you through the process.

I've got more...

Nancy was awarded the National Medal of Science in 2000 by Pres Clinton. The award was for pioneering the field of Brain Imaging.

Look up Nancy Coover Andreasen.
