Thumbs up U-571

As was referenced in the aircraft commander relieved thread, I rewatched this movie for the third time last night.

One of the best, if not the best Submarine Movies Made.

U-571, Destination Tokyo, Crimson Tide - my favorite Sub movies.

No way it beats out Das Boot or Hunt for Red October!

It was entertaining. I watched it the other night with my wife.

I've watched them all many, many times (but not as many as the Duke in a Beret)

Das Boot is the only submarine movie I've seen (and I've seen most) that didn't include at least one scene that made me roll my eyes, shake my head and sigh at something unrealistic or downright nonsensical.

Crimson Tide?

Destination Tokyo is still one of my favorites. Seen it at least a half dozen times.

Worst Sub movie is the one where the US Sub captain torpedoes a boat load of US POWs, including his wife and kid, just do he can get a shot at a Jap aircraft carrier. Glenn Ford and Ernest Borgnine. Terrible movie.

That newer French movie emphasizing the Sonsr tech was pretty good also.

That really happened, more than once..

And one of the boats that did this was in a Comedy, best ever sub comedy (better than Operation Petticoat), was Down Periscope. That boat sits in San Francisco as a operational museum.

'Down Parascope' had to be based on a true story?

Watching Black Sea again, by accident. Probably would not pass ET1Nuke test. About a crew of Ruskies and Brits salvaging gold from a sunken U-boat in the Black Sea. Jude Law, Scoot McNairy....it entertains on Netflix.
