3rd Recon Parachuting Death

I didn't see this posted. Happened this past Monday.

https://news.usni.org/2018/01/24/22-...cident-arizona.

I'm unfamiliar with a "double bag" parachute jump, but did some of the testing on static-line squares BITD at Quantico. Seems like sort of the same thing.

Rest in Peace Corporal Romero.

Rest easy, Marine.

When I was running around with 2nd Force a couple of years ago, DBSL was the only SL system they were using.

Apparently he had a cutaway and got tangled up..........DBSL is extremely safe and I'm unaware of any incidents since it came on board around 2005'ish. He was just married 3 weeks ago, RIP Brother.

BNT, here's a short vid of DBSL and you can get a feel for the opening sequence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snvXuTp9Fvg

Interesting video. I also saw a still photo somewhere that showed the chute deploying, and it makes sense that it would be more reliable. Then again, everything is reliable right up until it doesn't work. Damn shame for this Marine.

I'm doing a few things for the Marines family and have been in contact with them getting them squared away with the Marine Recon Foundation and the 3rd Recon Bn Ops Chf. They were getting some bad scoop relating to the gov shutdown etc..but Cpl Romero's told me this evening that the family is doing as good as can be and that the Corps, the unit and Recon Community as a whole are coming thru strong.
