Rubber bands on Magazine

Saw this picture allegedly of a MARSOC Marine. This is cropped/zoomed picture of the original. Can anyone explain the use of rubber bands from the trigger-well to the magazine? I believe they were doing some type of water-borne training and wondered if that had anything to do with it.

Didn't want to accidentally drop his mag in the drink would be my guess. Certainly not a good idea for anything else that I can think of. Also guessing that should have been removed as soon as he was out/off of the water.

I assumed that and maybe they were right out of the water when the photo was taken. Pure curiosity on my part.

If they went around his trigger, he's doing a poor-man's bump stock. Marines mostly have the M4, which is 3 round burst, not the M4A1, which is automatic.

But, it's just around the trigger guard, so Sharky's steel on target. Amazing.

Pretty clever, especially because there is a fair chance you could accidentally hit the mag release during marops what with there being so many other things going on in the water and there would be no recovering it depending on depth.

Guessing that lesson was learned the hard way.

You could put a few on your IPSC gun, that way it wouldn't tear your hands up so bad when you have to tap/rack it every 3d shot.

Upon further examination, I believe I own a pair of those gloves; worn hard and put up wet.

If it’s rubberbands you need, I know a gal who knows more about those bands than most people alive... :D

To stop noise perhaps? Not wanting to get a slap around the ear for being the guy who was going clinkity-clink at inopportune times while tiptoeing about.

I always travel with rolls of tape to wrap/shim stuff to deaden any noise

When I first saw that pic back in 2015, I surmised that the bands were being employed to help ensure mag retention during waterborne ops but I wondered how/why they couldn't find black ones...
