Anyone have experience with cataract surgery at the VA?

If you have private insurance that will take care of it have them do it, or try an get the V.A. to send you to an out side Doctor to have it done.

My spouse unit had this surgery a couple years ago as well as my FIL. Both were happy with the outcome and it's a fairly common surgery with usually just 1 follow up. This was outside the VA though. I would recommend that route.

Yes. I do. Not mine, but two other guys...

Like any surgery, it depends on the surgeon and the facility/system of care.

Many places can do a hip replacement, but some places have better outcomes than others. That data is available to a person who is diligent in the search for answers.

Eye surgery is no different:

The VA in Salt Lake City has great outcomes - they are attached to the University of Utah's teaching hospital have some of the west's top surgeons doing and guiding surgery.

The VA at Togas Maine has "OK" outcomes, but not as good as SLC... (issues post-surgical, positive patient outcome, infection rates, ER visits post-surg...)

Bottom line - research the outcomes at the facility and the surgeons - make a decision from there...

I had mine at the VA center in St. Louis several years ago. They did an excellent job, no complaints. My wife had hers done there yesterday and a follow up visit today. All is good with hers so far.
