You could have a problem as to where they are not filtering right. This is caused by what you eat or drink

Reason I know this is my wife before she passed away had gout.

It affected different parts of her body at times the hands or her knees

The best think to do is drink a lot of water.

make a list of what you eat/drink at every meal.

I for got what my wife took when it flared up but I would give her 2 pills at the start an one later if needed.

This is what she took colchicine 0.6 mg capsule it worked for her.

Anything like an oranges, lime's that type of food can cause a proble also spices hot type.
Good data Wildman. More posts like this one please.

I've had gout for 30 years. Never had a flare-up above my waist.

My trigger foods are a little weird. KFC gravy sets me off in hours, even when I'm current on my meds (allopurinol 100 mg currently). But I can eat pork in limited quantities, and ham all day long. Bacon is fine, but sausage can be problematic, because it often includes organ meats, which have higher purine content.

Red wine is bad for gout; it has a higher purine content than other alcohols, IIRC.

Wildman, was the med Indocin/indomethacin? That's what I used to take for flareups; it's an NSAID, I think.

Not a doc, and not in place of anything a doc prescribes, but try tea tree oil on both sides of the joint, twice a day. You'll be surprised at how well it works. Wishing you well Captain!

Gout and Psuedogout are not the same thing, just so we are all clear.
The only way to definitively diagnose you is to draw some of that fluid out and put it under the microscope. An X-ray may show some calcification, but the go-to will be checking the fluid.

Sounds like you’re in...good hands... going to a hand specialist.

It is a manageable disease process, so that’s good news and miles better than an infection. Good luck. Please do report back. Always nice to follow a case on here.

Staph. Ewww. Nasty shit. The RIGHT antibiotics will clear it up noticeably quick as posted earlier.

For Christ Sake, DON'T pick your nose!

Gout is no joke either. My son has it in his mid 30's already but he drinks a helluva lot of beer and his diet sucks. FIL has it. Hes almost 80. Its his biggest complaint.
