As much as the focus is more on humor in this show, I can't help but think the tone will get a bit darker as it moves along and Saul gets involved with Mike, Gus Fring and some of the other shady characters in the BB universe.

It would be interesting to see what kind of a timeline they've got for the show, in terms of how much "real time" transpires over the course of however many seasons it may air.

Breaking Bad was on for 5 seasons and covered not quite a year and a half, or thereabouts.

I think that the show will be slightly lighter at the outset but as it unfolds it will lead to the inevitable intersection between Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman and Walter White and that is a very dark path. I expect to see the return of Gus Fring, Tuco, Crazy 8, Victor and Fring's backstory.

And this is a good thing.

At some point, if it succeeds and they reach that timeline, Walt and Jesse have to make some kind of appearance.

The key is what was Saul doing on their behalf during those times we didn't see him. Huell and Koby will show up, and maybe Robert Forster as the vacuum cleaner man/identity fixer too.

Starts in 2004.

I didn't quite get the bit about the check he tore up - couldn't make out the text of the letter. Was it for $26K or so?

*update - OK. Guess it's better to let it play out before asking questions.

So far, so good.
I liked how it started with the present, giving BB some closure, then went back in time

Yes, was for $26K.

Look like it is for a partial payment/salary for his Father/older brother? But, Saul, does not want the $26K. He wants his Father/older brother (who appears to have some sort of dementia or paranoia/schez. mental issues and keeps thinking he is going to get better) to cash out of the law firm and collect his share which IIRC was like $17 million.

Overall, I will probably watch the second episode. But, so far it just is kind of "meh". Does not grab me. Will see how it goes, or if it is just another spin off trying to live off the success of a previous series like we see so many times before but do not live up the expectations.

The Older McGill (no idea if he's father or brother, just "Chuck") is completely paranoid...afraid of electromagnetic waves poisoning his brain...that's why Saul had to leave his cell phone in the mailbox and ground himself before he came in the house. The other partners in the law firm that bears his name are trying to buy them off cheap with the $26k.

I don't expect it to be as good as BB, but I'm hopeful it will turn out to be interesting.

The pilot episode of BB was also greeted with a meh. I think given time Saul will develop into great television.

The cast is just too good. And Chuck is Jimmy's brother.
