And now I feel like a dick. I was being facetious about having never hunted, and MDWest sent me a rather generous offer via PM. Should have added a smiley icon.

While I’d love to do one of those hunts, far be it from me to impede someone getting to hunt for the first time. Wasn’t my intent.

You’re a horrible person. Let’s go hunt.

We ranch north of Truckee and have cows all over the doggone north state. Our calves go to a sale barn in Galt or Redding every fall, however a couple are kept back for family/friends. With enough notice and minimal hassle for both of us there can be beef available in the late spring. I will see how this years processing turns out in another couple weeks, maybe I can get you a couple packages and see if it is worth the extra hassle for you. Not everyone likes grass-fed beef.

Trying to keep this post simple, it is a hassle for the individual rancher/producer to sell beef directly, unless you are doing it on some kind of volume basis. It is not done routinely.

However a few producers do attend local farmer's market after going through Cal and USDA hoops and sell directly to the public. Be advised, it aint cheap, but it is good.
The market's I'm going to recommend below are very reputable.
Also be aware if the grass fed meat is not aged 45 days or so, it can be less than ideal...These cattlemen do this.

Farmer's market reasonably close to you. You should be able to google any of them.
Petaluma
Davis
Willits
Truckee
Sierraville

The farmer's market can be a fun family deal if you are looking for something like that, or just a quick trip to grab produce/meat etc!

I am very familier with both Willits and Truckee, and my wife is involved with the Sierraville market so I am partial to it.

I dont log on here much in the summer, but anyone can feel free to send me an e-mail with questions.

I will check this thread for the next couple days, see if I can be of help to anyone else.

Mike

Mike, I’ll be in touch! This sounds perfect and well within range for us.
