Recruiting/ Tryout/ Selection from other branches.
Please, someone correct me if I am wrong, but I had read years back that any service member can apply for and tryout for SF and/ or units who must not be named.
You hear and read terms like Delta and CAG, but I don’t want to assume I am in the know of what these specialized teams may be called, or exactly what their mission sets entail. I am inquiring today about where I can search for a course of action to actually apply for an opportunity. I have read that the Army sends out announcements, but being part of another service degrades that communication chain. I would say that I am about two years out from when I would personally prefer to put my best foot forward. What would be a realistic time frame from making contact to stepping foot into the course? I understand fully if certain aspects of this cannot be posted, I am merely seeking to find out where to get the information I need. Thanks in advance for any guidance provided. |

Yeah, it can be done for sure. However, not to be a Debbie Downer, but your starting with a huge deficit attempting a SMU selection without being SOF/Infantry. Sooo, yeah, good luck.

What's wrong with AFSOC? I hear that ever since the AF quit going to CDQC in Key West it's almost a given to make PJ. Also, CCT doesn't even go to indoc anymore so there's another easy option.
I kid, I kid. Happy Friday and best of luck. |

Given? The PJ pipeline, the first couple of months pool work is the most brutal part- where many get weeded out.
To the original OP, read what Hot Mess stated. Either stay in the Air Force and do Air Force job. Or get out, join Army and go Ranger or SF.

Several of my guys have applied/tried out/been accepted/transferred to some of the units you are talking about, including the 160th. So short answer, yes, you can. You're in the right place to ask about this but as an AFSOC guy you have a ton of resources already available to you via official channels.
