Quoting only a portion of another post
For the longest time I have been hitting the quote button on another users post to include it in a post I want to expand on. This uses the other users entire post. However, at times I only want to highlight a portion of that users post.
How do I only highlight the portion, sentence, etc, of the other post instead of the entire post? |

Copy and paste the text into the reply box. Then highlight the portion you want to bold and click the B button above.

Or were you just trying to cherry pick part of the text and move it to the reply box?

Actually, I think this was what I wanted to do. Only quote a portion of text from another post.

Just cut/copy/paste the part you need to the reply box, then highlight and hit the quote box up top.

Are you talking about doing something like this?
Quote:
{quote} would start a new quote box and {/quote} would end a new quote box. Usually this appears in the quote box with an = then the user name and then a number. This is how it directs you back to the individual quote. So Gsniper's reply above looks like this: {QUOTE=Gsniper;1058627500}Or were you just trying to cherry pick part of the text and move it to the reply box?{/QUOTE} But when you change it to actual brackets, it looks like this: Quote:
Just remember that [function] usually starts the function and [/function] usually ends the function. So if you want to quote, but you don't need the user name embedded, you can start a quote by including [quote] and end it using [/ quote]. Hopefully this helps. |
