Agreed. Back pedaling for sure. I am curious for the outcome and potential changes. Though private, their decisions surely devalued the shareholder's equity. We will see.

So my son bought an ATI 1911GI Commander frame. We shot it this weekend, and it wasn't bad for a $400 gun.
What kind of toothpaste do you recommend?

I use either the old white gritty colgate, flitz or rubbing compound. A word of caution, don't borrow the later from Sharky as he thinks ponds cold cream is "rubbing compound".

For your viewing pleasure.
This is the SIG 1911 that was my "Bn.pistol" for our Afghan vacation in 2012. My Platoon had it engraved, I sent it back to SIG Custom Shop to for their "1911 treatment". It shoots allot more accurately than I can shoot it. I do shoot it in a match from time to time. Mostly I will hand down to my son when he gets big enough.

The biggest reason there were never more SA linkless guns built is they tried to rip off Peters-Stahl in Germany, whose patented design the Linkless is. They originally had a licensing agreement, but then stopped paying, while not stopping producing. I guess they thought this guy is on the other side of the planet and won't do anything. They figured wrong. He sued, they agreed not to build any more and IIRC (this is mid-90's) had to destroy anything they still had, which cuts the numbers even more. Only built for a couple of years I believe. These guns have a reputation as being very accurate, the Peters-Stahl linkless 1911's are both numerous and popular among sport shooters in Germany, and still in production. Unfortunately many of them are longslide 6", not 5". Usually found with Bo-Mars installed, often with a 9mm conversion set up due to how the laws are over there, you can only own so many handguns but conversion kits don't count against that total. They sell for more over there than they do here, where they are unappreciated generally. (Going by price to get that.) So, nothing really to do with execution. Collector value is as you say derived from scarcity and novelty, but they don't really sell that high, here is a really nice minty SA .40 Linkless that just today sold on GB for a whole $703.00 with original box/papers/etc.. If that had been a 10mm it would have brought anywhere from $200-$500 more, and it would have been mine. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/686042382 I know I have been waiting to stumble across an SA Linkless in 10mm for a long time so I can get rid of my Delta Elite. People who have them don't sell them, for what that tells you. Fully supported chamber as opposed to "not" with the Colt. Since VLTOR will apparently never produce their version of the Bren 10, which they had prototypes of back in 2012 (2011?) I guess I have to find an original of that as well.....

Isn't that the one with the ridiculous finger grooves?

Make that singular, as in "groove." Not really a groove, either, since it stuck out...protuberance? Tumor? Growth? The later production guns (made under the "Olympic Arms" name) didn't have the Safari Arms tumor.

I wouldn't pay more than $700 for one. They had a lot of features that were only on custom guns for that time period. I have heard good and bad about them like most guns.

x2.
Great video of the action of the 1911. Vickers has a rock solid 2 handed grip and his wrists do not break with the recoil. Loved seeing the gas expansion (some which left the barrel before the round) and then seeing some of the un-burned powder leaving the barrel. Nice job Wilson Combat. |

Shot a SA EMP4 contour carry in 9mm. Very impressed with ergonomics, quality and reliability. Looking forward to putting more rounds through it.
Will be my next article for SOF.
