The M21's are neat guns, but they're finicky, hard to accurize and keep accurate and the ART2 scope was great for it's time (60's-70's). I don't hate them, but it was a far inferior system to the M24 or M40's of the time.

We had the Sage stocked M14/M1A with a nice Mark 4 on it. Love that heavy ass gun.

Yeah, they'e a lot better with a Leupold on them. I carried one some in Afghanistan with a M3A on it. M14's will kill a mo fo, just not my first choice.

Minor correction, the ART 2 was a late 1970s thing. An example of improving something (AR TEL aka ART I) until it didn't work anymore.

Sure thing. Back when SOTIC was standing up we were training guys on ART I & ART II scopes on M21s. Just about every ART I scope in the inventory saw service in Vietnam but they were still rocking. Every time you turned around something would break on those damn ART II scopes.

I still laugh at the idiots on eBay trying to sell ART II scopes as being "Vietnam sniper scopes". That'd be a neat trick.
