Question

Sooo Leerhsen is not bias...

What is the moral lesson? We had a Mr. and Mrs. Cobb in our neighborhood in STL where I grew up. I have heard the same stories about Ty Cobb. They were supposed descendants.

There was an issue of Imprimis a couple of years ago that addressed the "real" Ty Cobb. I'll see if I can dig it up-good read.

I liked Al Stump's claim to owning the shotgun Ty Cobb's mother used to murder his father in 1905.

Too bad the firearm actually used was a pistol, and the death resulted from the mother mistaking her husband for an intruder.

I prefer the legend of Ty Cobb, makes for a better story.

Especially the story of him going into the stands and beating up a heckling fan who had prosthetic arms. Not sure if that story has been disproved.

Sounds like he isn't biased, that he actually did research rather than listen to stories that were likely invented and then simply passed around because they sounded good.

Elizabeth Warren 'heard' that she was part Indian and was ridiculed and rightly so for stating it without verifying it.

Interesting. I loved the movie Cobb with Tommy Lee Jones. All Stump must have had a hand in that if the linked u-tube videos is correct. Good movie though. Have traveled thru Cobb's hometown several times.

Cobb was a good movie, Tommy Lee Jones made for a great Ty Cobb. Again, the legend is always more interesting than the underlying truth. And the stories always just seem to get better, and more outrageous, the more they are told.

I will eventually read Leerhsen's book "Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty" at some point, in the meantime I'm more interested in giving Cobb the movie another viewing.
