I liked it, and I watched the first 2 last night on hulu.com. Just search vikings, fewer commercials :-)

Anyway, it was good, the second one started to frame what was going on. I liked it.

Olaf, son of Ivor, in Norse is Olaf Ivarsson, but translated into Gaelic the last name became MacGyver. ("Mac-Ivor")

Son of Olaf, was Olafsson, but in Gaelic became MacAuliffe. ("Mac-Olaf")

The influence of the Vikings is still seen today, even in Irish names.

When they invaded Ireland, it wasn't in eight or ten longboats. They landed in two successive waves of sixty longboats in each wave.

Not to spoil the show, but Viking vengeance was a bitch of the highest order imagineable. I'm hoping they 'discuss' the 'Blood Eagle' a certain king received for executing a certain Viking.

Olaf Ivarsson kept a Norse ship from sinking with an elkhorn, a piece of flint and some mead

Great show. To my fellow Norsemen for their historical insights, well said. First round of akvavit and lutefisk for Leif Erikson Day is on me......

Just watched the first episode. Streaming free on Xbox Live for some reason. I'm digging it. Really like the after battle scene showing Odin and the Valkyries taking fallen warriors to Valhalla.

I'll take the akvavit, you can have the lutefisk. It was one of the staples at my Swedish grandparent's table along with hard tack but I never acquired a taste for it.

Good catch, Old Pogue. Same experience I had with lutefisk, lefsa, and all the other preserved foods of our Viking forefathers. Signing up for the privation (as seen in these rations) of raiding or exploring really exemplifies the Viking spirit. I wonder how "Vikings" will address this side of the Vikings expeditionary warfare.

Maybe I'll substitute pickled herring for lutefisk at the LE Day celebration; first round is still on me..... Skol!

I watched episodes 1-3 on "on demand" yesterday, and recorded episode 4 to watch tonight. I like this series so far.

Amon Amarth (Viking metal band) is on the playlist for today.

I watched a few episodes yesterday while we had a couple of hailstorms

Interesting 'domestic dispute' scene

Got really pissed off when the Earl killed the kid to 'guard' his treasure...

CAn't wait to see the episode where he dies...

I'll pass on the lutefisk but bring on the lefsa (butter & sugar), varma polsa and kringla! My favorite thing about NordicFest back home.

Was about to bump this thread, and see if others were still watching it. (obviously, didn't have to...) I'm liking it a lot; good mix of dialog and acting with some great combat scenes. As much as I'd like to see Jarl Haraldson just fucking die already - I doubt he will be killed for a while longer.

Floki's awesome, too.

I want to see the Earl's little toady (short, beard, fat) get his head put on a pike sometime before the series ends. The dynamic between Ragnar and his brother is getting interesting.

Concur on the deserved fate of the Viking weasels; hopefully Thor wills their deaths and they are deprived of Valhalla. On another note, I was happy to finally see some great small unit tactics and blood-soaked Berserker esprit.

I hate that smarmy little fucker.

I agree, things are definitely getting interesting between Ragnar and Rollo. I believe it was the first episode where Rollo wanted to get with Ragnar's wife so his motives for pulling Ragnar's dick out of the wringer this week were definitely not altruistic, he just didn't want to see her die. I don't see Rollo lasting much longer.

I did dig the phalanx that the Vikings deployed on the beach this week.
