I love scrambling.

But Im strictly a 3-4 kind of guy.

That 5+ stuff, especially without ropes is loco.

Just watching it probably had my heart racing far more than Alexs.

I saw Discipline, Focus, Purpose, Joy.

Great window into Honnold's emotional development. Even before they talked about his father's history Honnold reminded me of someone on the spectrum. Such a flat affect. Great build up by showing his practice runs that we could compare to his actual free solo event. Amazing example of the pinnacle of human accomplishment.

Same here. Just seeing some of his interviews you can definitely tell he falls somewhere on the spectrum.

Some of the parts of the documentary were difficult watch. I like Alex's comment “Nobody achieves anything great by being happy and cozy.”

This kind of climbing is just plain insane. I was a novice, on my best day, but I was on a mountain rescue team for several years and had to risk my neck to get many of these knuckleheads out of the backcountry! Not all of em lived. I will say I had some kick ass rescues with some insane, Nam Vet, chopper pilots, though! My hat is off to those dudes!

Watched it last weekend. Concur with Doc P and Hostile... the dude definitely falls within the spectrum. If he keeps it up, gravity will eventually win out but even he admits it. Crazy or balls of steel or maybe a little of both. Take your pick....

I first heard the phrase "there are old skydivers and there are bold skydivers, but there are no old and bold skydivers" here on SOCNET. A similar sentiment appies to those indulging in free soloers. I'm a climber, but I prefer sticking to sport climbing in the 5.10-5.11 range. Way different. Soloing at this level is fairly crazy.
