Added to the oddities today...

I picked up a 300 H&H today for a STEAL..

I dont need another 30 cal in the safe.. and didnt need another mid-bore magnum... but for the price the guy was asking, I couldnt resist..

I've also got a couple of new builds underway right now..one of them isnt going to be an odd ball.. it will be a 30-06 (didnt I just say I didnt need another 30????? why the hell I am building another 30-06 I have no idea.....)...

The other is going be be a 416 Taylor though..

I do. I had a 357 Max barrel for my TC back in the day. Very accurate.

I decided I needed a new Remington 700 CDL in 300 Win Mag. It is going to be far cheaper to load for than my 257 Weatherby.

I think my Weatherby is going to be my only pricy caliber. But it is a dream to shoot.

I'm the only person I know who has ever owned a .218 bee; frankly, I loved it, but too hard to find ammo, and I don't have the patience for loading my own.

My uncle had a cool old Farquharson single shot in 218 Bee. Big long Unertl scope on it, it's a useful relic from "the good ole days." S/F....Ken M

Maybe not an odd caliber, an old one. The 45/70. Plenty mentioned in other threads about Lever Rifles etc. I saw an older, blued model CVA single shot break down yesterday. Short, handy, probably knocks the shit out of ya. Nice Trijicon scope.

If it's still there in 2 weeks, I will be too.

I really like 45/70, very versatile load, can cleanly take all game in North America. I only have one rifle chambered for it (1895G I bought new in 1998), but have been looking for a good true “rifle,” as mine is really more of a carbine, with a ported 18.5” barrel.

Inside 150 yards I am not sure if there has ever been a finer "all around" north american big game hunting cartridge developed than the 45-70..

takes everything from smaller scale white tail deer and hogs.. all the way up to kodiak brown bears cleanly and efficiently..

does little meat damage and is an absolute hammer on everything it touches..

If youre recoil sensitive or need to stretch things out beyond a football field's length there are typically some better options..

but otherwise.. IMO its awfully hard to beat.. and is a premier class grocery getter..

I have a Pedersoli repro Sharps in 45-70. 34" barrel. The 45-70 may have a rainbow trajectory but it still hits hard with 550 gr bullets at 600 yards (farthest I've shot it). Not that I'd hunt with it, but...

Was trolling the gun library at the Scarborough Cabela's today and saw this Browning with 26" hex barrel and nice markings, beautiful curved buttplate:

Search of their system shows at least one other Browning but shorter and more white-bread, and several Winchesters of varying appeal but sig ^ $.

That's a beauty. Pricey though.

Ditto Bravo.

I'd jump on a hundred cases or so like a fat kid on a doughnut whenever you see it in stock.

(as of this post, both links have it in stock).

A Miroku gun, nice. I had the Winchester version, in take down, and I sold it for significantly less than that one is offered for. Very nice gun, but that curved buttplate is awful. S/F....Ken M

This group is a bunch after my own heart. I have not shot factory ammo for forty years and love wildcats and odd calibers. Here is a few of mine.

450 #2 Nitro in a double rifle
Shiloh Sharps in 45-120
Winchester 1886 in .33 Win. (Grandfathers hunting rifle)
Bolt action in .404 Jeffrey
Mauser actioned .35 Whelen
Mauser actioned .416 Taylor

Love to take reloading recipes for those inclined to do so.

A 35 Whelen in a mauser is odd.

It is only a Mauser in the fact that it is a Mauser action (GEW98). Everything else is other. ER Shaw barrel, Timney trigger, custom stock etc.

Thanks dude, I bought 100 from Natchez about an hour ago.

I was amazed to see it in stock. The web is filled with pages of no one finding brass.
