I've heard good things about LtCol Galvin.
Nicholson was only part of the blame machine. I heard Marines were also hastily laying blame on Fox Co. |

Galvin retired as a Major, FWIW. And after talking with Fred, he surprised me with some of his comments about a few USMC general officers that are generally thought of in high regard...Lots of people let him and his men twist.

LTG Nicholson is by no means the only man who should feel the shame of dishonor in this series of events.

Agreed. The blame chain starts with Kearney & Nicholson and rolls down from there. There were some good men that were slandered/characteristically destroyed that day by their statements. I'd rather refocus this thread to the great things that MARSOC has done since................

Did a search and didn't see this update. House Resolution 21 has been referred to the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-...on/21/text?r=6 Fred Galvin gives a six minute overview of the incident and where it stands now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6S9...ature=youtu.be I've written a letter to Rep Mark Sanford regarding this resolution; hard not to be pessimistic considering all involved, but Fred's never given up. They all deserve restitution. |

Good News
Good news for Fred and his men of Fox Co. There is no way to fully pay back/give back these men whose reputations were tarnished but this is one small step. There are many GO's: Kearney, Heijlik, Nicholson and others who need to be shamed.

I've only just seen this thread:
Is this the ambush that took place near Torkham, east of JBad? If so, I recall this incident, as our DynCorp compound was the first friendly stop for the MarSoc convoy. I clearly recall the divots and scorch marks on their vehicles, as well as one roof gunner with a bandage on his jaw. What makes me recall this incident specifically, was the similarities to Nasoor Square. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the claims of the "poor afghans" that led to the unit being pulled from the country rang very similar to the claims made against BW immediately after Nasoor Square, a year later. To me, it felt like this ambush was a dress rehearsal for Nasoor Square. My 2 cents...

Great news.
This whole fiasco should never have happened to LtCol Galvin. |

GEN Nicholson remains a POS. He came to Kunduz in March, 2016, as part of his apology tour following the MSF shootout the previous Fall. He gave a nice speech in town, throwing under the bus the very SOF team that was providing his security, and asking the locals for forgiveness. He brought his wife along, to give a parallel speech to the local womenfolk.
He flew in, shit-talked USSOF to the locals, and then flew out. Didn't bother to stop at our little outpost to talk to the troops. The consensus that day was that he had complete disdain for American forces. I have never met a less-inspiring leader than him. I wish I had met LtCol Galvin while he was in uniform. He sounds like the right kind of leader. Regards, Danny |

This saddens me no end. Nicholson left 2/325 AIR as a captain shortly before I arrived there, and was spoken of in reverent tones. He was apparently a stellar company commander who went on to do equally well in the 75th.
Senior officers losing their souls is something that has always mystified me. You spend your life working to become a trusted member of an elite fraternity, only to forsake it all for political advancement. I just don't get it.

Another good article in the Washington Post covering this travesty and their vindication.

"Galvin, who earned a Kuwaiti Liberation Medal..."
Kind of a strange thing to focus on.
