Can I Salvage This Phone?

I found a phone at a trailhead. I ran Craigslist ads immediately, while on my way to work. A few days later, when I got back, I took it straight to the Sprint store thinking they could ID the owner and return it. The fellow in the store looked it up and told me that the phone had already been inactivated, and there is nothing more he can do with it.

So now I have an iPhone (I think it is a 6 model) that I would like to get into, wipe clean, and use for my wife. Is there a way that I can salvage this phone?

Thanks all.

Does it still fire up? The only thing you need to do is get a SIM card, and you're gold. There's a way to wipe it via the settings.

Yes. You can factory restore the phone via iTunes.

Here's a guide. Click Me.

Thanks all! So it looks like the wife can have an upgraded phone now. I'll get to work on this. Thanks again.

Mixed Load, did you intend for me to do the usual factory reset or to use the dr.fone program?

The iPhone will not allow you to do a factory resore if the "find my phone" function is turned on. Just in case you run into it.

Even if the phone has been deactivated by Sprint?

Right now I'm trying a Restore using my MacBook and iTunes per this:

Give it a whirl. If it's been locked up from the find my phone function, you'll know right away.

Looks like the Restore worked. I tried my SIM card in the 'new' phone, but got a message that it doesn't work with how the phone was initially set up for activation. So I'll have to take the phone to Verizon tomorrow, get a SIM card, and get them to activate it on their service.

The wife looked at me with great skepticism and suspicion, but it looks to me like she will have a new iPhone 6.

Thanks all for the pointers.

Follow up

My wife took the phone to Verizon today to get a SIM card and get it activated. They told her the phone is locked (and only Sprint can unlock it?).

What are my options?

She'll have to use Sprint as a service provider for the phone.

If that's not an interesting option, you can always sell it too or offer to trade it for a Verizon iP6.

Take it to a Sprint store and have them unlock it, then take it back to the Verizon store.
