NSPS does not recognize EMT anything....There is a challenge process available but have not heard ofmany passing, to include medical providers.

Other than that, if you are on the snow as much as you say, you're overqualified. The way it works is like this: Go in the early Spring to whatever area you want to patrol at and sign up for the candidate program. You will get slotted into OEC. The following season you start the area specific portion. Generally it is a one season on-hill program to learn sled handleing, area procedures, medical, basic snow safety etc. Test during the season and you're in-put on the cross and go to work.

Most small and medium areas depend heavily on their volunteer patrollers, especially on the weekends. For the line patroller, it can be a great time. Give it a shot, I'm sure you'll like it!

nsps.org IIRC...

Great advice, Mike. Thank you!

I figured you'd be. Given your locale it'd be a crime not to ski!

This whole thread is making me suicidal. Why, oh lord, did you send me to DC?

My AT gear is staring me down in the garage, angry and devoid of love.

+1 on being a 'troller. Good times for all.

LMAO...that is always a serious consideration when evaluating job opportunities in NOVA. If the job culture out there doesn't get me, the lack of real skiing might.

I've been skiing my whole life minus my four year detour at Benning. I'm jealous of you guys who've patrolled. Looks like a great gig. Areas are nice for getting some vert in, but my heart is in the backcountry.

I was able to get to AK and Italy last year. Thank God for the Rocky Mountains. AK and it's maritime snowpack about killed me on tele's. The higher elevations were fine, but the cement at the bottom of the mountain beat me the fuck up.
The Italians and their preference for corduroy about did me in as well. It was all I could do to hold an edge (again, on tele's) and my buddies who brought their powder boards ended up renting carving skis. Who in their right mind scrapes snow off of a run???

Unfortunately not going to make it to AK this year. Some day will be back up there. Due to working also not going to ski as much as I want to this year but will get some skiing in somewhere. Still to be determined. I started skiing at 5. Got 2 seasons of pro ski patrol one at Alyeska and one at Crystal Mt in WA. Fun times and sometimes I wish I would have stuck to it.

Been snowboarding about 7 years now...

Last season I managed to hit Verbier Switzerland, Whistler in canada, Vail in Colorado, and a bunch of the NE ski areas...

Doing back country with local kids in switzerland was incredible...

Does anyone else have a helmet cam? I picked one up last year and its made for some hilarious (and beautiful) videos...

Totally forgot about this thread, because I was too busy watching snow porn!

I've heard great things about Verbier. When I was a kid I got fortunate enough to ski in Wengen once. Switzerland can be absolutely mindblowing.

Whistler is on the hitlist this winter. Trying to knock off Pemberton and Revy too. One of my buddies is a heli-guide in Revy so I might get lucky and do it the right way

Have any of you guys watched the latest flics? I've purchased most of them to maintain my sanity on deployments. So far I'd have to say "All.I.Can" and "One For The Road" are my favs this season. "La Nina - The Bitch Is Back" was good too but it didn't hold up to "The Way I See It" from last year. And "Light The Wick" is still getting played at least twice a month of the Mac.

Also went to the Banff Mountain Film Festival showing in my town and loved it. An abundance of cool documentaries ranging from skiing to environmental changes and everything in between. Have any of you been?

Either ways, back to snow porn... anything with Ingrid Backstrom in it is fine by me!

I'll be out near Jackson, WY for about 12 days over the holidays. I plan on hitting JHMR a few times, and some backwoods in as well.

It's been a few years since I've been on skis, especially in good powder. Want to try out some of the new rocker skis that are out there...

Cool pictures, Local. Just watched One For The Road last night again and the BC and WY stoke is building. Can't wait to get waist deep in there!

Cayman, that should be a good time to be out there. I'm going to be out there at the end of Jan for five days. And you're absolutely going to need a nice pair of skis. Check out the Salomon Rocker 2's. It was between those and the Armada JJ's. The only reason I went with the Salomon's is because I got a slamming deal on them with some Duke bindings.

Have any of you guys ski'd out in Niseko, Japan? I'd love to get out there next winter for a month. Lightest pow in the world from all the stuff I've read and the idea of being in that part of the world would rock period.

Cayman, they opened up a bunch of backcountry out the back of JHMR and don't forget to ski the pass on Hwy 22.

I'm a Tele-head

Gonna teach my son to Tele next winter once I get back from the desert. He already loves Cross Country and Alpine.

Just got back from Bear. Awesome start to the season, they got dumped with 14-16 inches of snow last night and there was fresh powder on all of the runs. Flask of Jameson for the lift...Good times.

Didn't bring my camera and never bring my phone on the runs, but I snapped these while driving up. I'll get some boarding pics next time I'm there.

I usually ski the Bird and Alta if anyone's in the area.

I'm more of a Lynsey Dyer guy myself..but now that Lindsey Vonn is single I'm sure she's eagerly awaiting my call.

You should check out "Out of the Shadows" by Dendrite Studios. Great vid from guys in BC.
