Icon5 Secure ID, Gold Star?

Just got back from the BMV. Informed that starting in 2020, Indiana Driver's licenses will be required to have a "Gold Star" on them, if you want to use your DL to fly on a plane, enter a federal facility, etc.

Interesting, in reading up on this, seems many states have adopted and many states are rejecting. It is suppose to be a federal mandate.

But, of course there are both left and right leaning "rights" groups that are opposing. Concerned with where this is leading. "You must have your Star". Don't have the star, some of your rights taken away. Some even stating later could be used to ID if you can purchase a firearm or not.

I can see where this is at, the improved security, even maybe voter ID. But, I can also see the concerns, the conspiracy theories, of how this could be taken too far. Used to control us, and again giving up more of our rights for our "Security".

Alabama adopted it a couple of yrs ago. Had to bring in birth certificate, SS card, passport, etc. They wanted my DD214. I told them it was on file at the courthouse if they wanted it bad enough. Of course they made copies of everything...

I see it as mining for info as much as "for your safety," and probably more so.

Meanwhile, what about securing the sanctity of my vote?

Montana has the same issue. It doesn't really bother me
Since I have a passport, DoD retired ID card plus CC license that I think can be used to fly.

Even for domestic flights, I always fly with a passport these days. This doesn't really bother me.

It's interesting. Went to get a birth certificate for my daughter here in AZ...and they will NOT accept my active duty ID card...however they accept the AZ drivers license which 1: states on it that it is not a federally accepted ID card and 2: cannot be used to fly, because of 1. WTF?!

I flew with an AZ ID last weekend but can't get on a Fed installation. Then again maybe TSA doesn't care?

You won't need a REAL ID for domestic flights until 2018, I think.

If you're flying internationally you already have a passport so you should be good to go. Just one more finger tightening its grip around your freedom.

It's funny because it's true. Sort of.

Arizona IDs are GTG until 2020 because AZ got an extension to comply with the REAL ID standards. Then you have to get a new one, and it's good for 8 years.

I'd never use a driver license for ID.

Carry your passport.

I never carry my PP domestically, I fly, travel, etc on either my retired ID card or CAC, no problems so far. Can you explain your reasoning?

Passport has no address or SSN on it. I never hand anyone, especially gov employees, a document with those elements.

I use the passport card for this purpose. It's the same size as my drivers license so there is no need to carry a different wallet or anything like my full sized passport. The card contains no real identifying information. My address and SSN are on my drivers license and I don't want that floating around every time someone "thinks" they need to photocopy my ID.

This is my big irritant with all the ID issues in society. I'm of the mindset that the government already has all my information anyway. But why are they willing to go to such lengths to secure a DL, but not a vote?
