Exclamation 03 Funding for this site...

As many of you are aware, the ownership of this site changed hands several months ago and is now a seperate entity from specialoperations.com. It was purchased by an anonymous former military man (and no, it's not me or any other admin) who wanted to insure that this site remains owned and operated by former SOF personnel. Trust me when I say that it did not come cheap. Notice that there are no banner ads or advertising of any kind on here. There is also no fee to use this site. None of the admins or mods are compensated in any way. As a result, the cost of maintaining this site, while not huge, is still considerable, and is paid directly out of the new owner's pocket, while this site makes zero money. The owner has not asked for assistance, nor will he. He firmly belives this site is worth it, even if that requires him paying for it out of his own pocket. So far, that is exactly what it has required. That, folks, is a damn shame and unacceptable to me.

I would like to encourage all of you to donate as you see fit by utilizing the "Support SOCNET" link at the top of the main forum page. This link is to a Paypal account set up strictly for donations toward the cost of maintaining and operating this site. We do not ask for money lightly here. I do believe however, that the expense of this site should be spread out among those of us who use and enjoy this site daily, rather than expect the one man who stepped up to the plate already by purchasing the site to continue funding it out of his own pocket and then losing money on it every month. It doesn't have to be a big donation. Anything will help and the money will be used only for the maintaining and operation of the site.

I am confident that the membership of this site will step up and make this right.

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

Also, please keep bumping this up so it gets noticed. I could make it a sticky but those go virtually unnoticed. Thanks.

I will be here next Friday.

'Nuff said Sharky. I'm ashamed I haven't stepped up before now.

For those who don't know how easy it is to donate to SocNet, perhaps Admin could post a link and/or walk through of the donation options/process here.

Roger. Can't believe I haven't donated before now. Consider it done.

Right now Paypal is the only option that I am aware of. Let me check on what else we can do and get back to you.

I'm sorry it's been so long since I made a donation. I'll do so now.

For those of you without Paypal, I signed up a few years ago and haven't had any problems at all. In fact, I was able to dispute and have a charge refunded easily.

I use PayPal quite frequently and love it, there are no reservations I have in my mind when I use it.

With that said, E5M/psyco6/Cold1/The Corporate Guy, if there is no way for you all to mail a check in, I would be more than willing (if you are) to receiving a check from you to me and using my PayPal to then make the donation. Sharky or another admin could then confirm that the donation was in fact made.

Let me know if that is something you all would be willing to do, there are probably quite a few reservations on your part.

Sharky,
Mav and I had been wanting to donate for a while now, its been hard to find a month when we could give what we wanted to. As of right now, it may not be until Aug 21st that we will be able to make the donation we feel this site deserves from us (hell, we wouldn't be married if it weren't for SOCNET).

Moolah is inbound.

However, if I find out that Sharky is actually the guy behind all those Nigerian wire fraud scams and that SOCNET is his ultimate 'deep cover' scheme to steal my beer money, I'm gonna be ticked.

So, do I get my crappy coffee mug now, or do I have to wait for the pledge drive?

Done. This site has one of the best communities out there.

Brother, I have been exactly where you are now in life. Dont even sweat it. If they would like to send funds to you I would be happy to verify their deposit.

You could do what I do and drop $50 in every month or so. For me, that's easier and it doesn't seem like such a big amount is coming out all at once.

Sharky - There used to be an automatic monthly option that was really handy.
