RFI: SORTIE

Was offered a position in Nigeria by this company. Just wanted to check if anyone has ever heard of them or worked for them. They offered a pay advance up to 50% of salary at $175K on a 90/60 rotation.

They have not asked for money. A "brief" was sent out outlining pay, rotation, mission, etc. Within this brief there were a few abnormalities - why I posted it here.

TFS, stick around and keep watching the thread. There are a few guys here whom are working in that part of Africa, so maybe they've seen or heard of this company.

Admittedly, the salary you mention, and the write up of their website, does raise an eyebrow or two -- so I agree with you that there is certainly cause to query....

I personally wouldn't throw in with this company...based on what little is available. Very thin.

Here is the brief that was emailed to everyone:

General Mission Information

The upcoming mission is to a western African nation. The official language is English, although

there are approximately 500 languages spread among a populace comprised of

approximately 500 separate ethnic groups.

The primary mission is a training mission, meaning that the goal is to train and educate

existing and future indigenous military and law enforcement personnel in small unit tactics,

apprehension and detainment procedures, intelligence gathering, interrogation procedures,

and counter terrorism operations.

There is a 4,000 acre camp established for the training of indigenous personnel with a second

camp planned in the mountainous north region.

Approximately half the population is Islamic and lives primarily in the northern half, while the

other half of the population is Christian and primarily lives in the southern half.

Every mission capable individual is an independent contractor and we are each responsible

for meeting the following basic criteria:

 Operators must be at least 21 years of age.

 Other non-operator contractors will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

 All personnel must be in possession of a valid Transportation Workers Identification

Card (TWIC). These are obtained through the Department of Homeland Security. Go

to www.dhs.gov and type ‘TWIC’ in the top right hand search bar. If personnel do not

have a TWIC, we may assist in obtaining one.

 All personnel must have current proof of Yellow Fever and Polio vaccinations on a

“Yellow Card”. These can be obtained, many times, through a chain pharmacy, such

as Walgreens and CVS. Remember, the vaccinations must be documented correctly on

the “Yellow Card”. These are required by the host nation.

 Current Passport

 Relaxed grooming standards apply to this mission.

 Bring Direct Deposit forms from your banking institution with the appropriate bank

account numbers and routing numbers. Please verify these numbers to ensure

accuracy.

It is mandatory to bring these documents to training. However, these issues can be taken care

of during admin (1st week of training) at the operators/contractors expense on a case-by-case

Pre-Deployment Training

A 10 Week Training Course will be provided at our location in East Texas near Beaumont.

Travel to our training facilities is at the individual operator’s expense. Once at our facility,

Sortie provides food, beverages, and lodging throughout the training period. Upon

completion of the 10 Week training period, if the operator chooses to return to their families,

Sortie Inc will arrange travel to Houston TX for deployment to our theatre of operations.

The pre-deployment training consists of an approximate 10 week train up period. The

Operator training is broken down into the following:

 Week 1: Admin Week

 Week 2: Basic SWAT

 Week 3: Advanced SWAT

 Week 4: Hostage Rescue

 Week 5: Team Leaders Course

 Week 6: Counter Paramilitary Course

 Week 7: High Risk Contractors Direct Engagement Course

 Week 8: Operators Counter Intelligence Course

 Week 9: Survival, Escape, Resistance, and Evasion (SERE)

 Week 10: Sign Contracts, Final Admin

Please be aware that this is rigorous training, but this is not a “selection” course, SFSQ, BUDs,

etc. The individual contractor decides if they will complete this training or not. Training of this

type is “mindset” orientated. You must WANT to complete this training. Each individual will

be provided with the support they need to complete this training-it is up to you to provide

the will power.

No one should stress regarding kit requirements, as ample time and finances will be provided

for each contractor to acquire the necessary training equipment and supplies. The round

count for training will be announced at a later date.

 Comfortable training clothing. Recommend multicam BDU type clothing. Will need

field jacket or similar cold weather gear, extra socks, skivvies, tshirts, personal hygiene

 Eye protection

 Plate carrier/chest rig

 Shemaugh, or similar head covering

 Individual First Aid Kit

 Portable water filter(recommend Sawyer Mini Water Filter available at most

Walmarts)

 Camelback

 Emergency fire starting equipment

 Tactical gloves

 Paintball type mask

 Field Sleeping System. Recommend US Military type ECWS(Extreme Cold Weather

System)

 Comfortable ankle supporting footwear(good combat boots)

 Lensatic compass

 10 Rifle magazines

 3 pistol magazines

 Rifle and pistol of your choice. If you choose not to bring a weapon, one will be

provided for you.

 Other equipment based on the individual contractors field experience

 At least a 10 week supply of any and all prescription medications that the individual

contractor requires.

 Heart-the mindset to complete the rigorous training.

Pre-Deployment Considerations

Pre-deployment is a hectic time as most of you can attest. Except for personnel who have

volunteered for the advance team, each contractor will have approximately 2 weeks, post

training, to return to their families. Below are some reminders and considerations:

 Visit your dentist for a dental checkup/screening and cleaning

 Situate your personal finances. Schedule bill payments through your financial

institution.

 Visit your primary care physician and obtain a 6 month supply of any medications you

need to bring with you. Medications in the host country are highly unreliable and to

be avoided.

Pay Breakdown

Pay dates follow standard military pay days: 1st and 15th of each month.

During the 10 week training period, everyone is at the same pay grade, approximately

$110,000 per year which equates to approximately $4,583 each 1st and 15th.

We will all be evaluated during training period and paygrade/rank increases will be

determined during the final week of training when the individual contracts are signed. Pay

will be approximately in the $150k-$175k per year for contract personnel. However, exact

contractual pay will be determined the final week of training and will take into account the

contractors experience, etc.

There will be a pay advance of up to half of one year’s salary available for each contractor

during the 10th week of training when the contracts are signed.

*Please Note* Any pay advances provided during the 10th week of training will be deducted

from the pay throughout the rest of the contractual year until Sortie is reimbursed.

Pay on the 1st and 15th will continue between deployments.

The first deployment is tentatively scheduled for late March from Houston Intercontinental

Airport. It is an 11 hour direct flight from Houston TX to our operational theatre.

Operators will be met at the operational theatre airport by the advance team and provided

with credentials, weapons, ammunition, and transportation to living quarters at the initial

4,000 acre camp. Credentials for this mission are continuous and operators are authorized to

carry weapons throughout the theatre of operations and at all times.

Deployment length at this time is 3 months in country/ 2 months stateside.

Training of indigenous forces is the primary mission.

Training course dates and deployment dates will be released over the next week. We

appreciate your interest in Sortie and we look forward to working closely with each of you for

many years to come. I can be contacted at the email or cell number provided at the top if you

have any questions.

IMO, this thread is taking a quick turn for the worst -- it may be deserved, but if I were the OP, I would refrain from posting further information and instead be patient and await commentary from those actually within the career field and/or area of operations. IMO; this area is not a place for those whom have a strong handle on GoogleFu to chime in with their search prowess....

After a bunch of eyebrow-raising statements, I have to ask:

What exactly is a "Counter Paramilitary Course"?

From the write-up, it looks like a kid with too much Call of Duty experience put together his Rambo Christmas list.

Definitely looking forward to seeing if anyone investigates this further.

From the OP's paste:
"...operators are authorized to carry weapons throughout the theatre of operations and at all times..."

This was NOT the case when I was approached for work in Nigeria. My research into the project ended right there.
Unless something major has changed, I would not expect to be permitted to carry much more than a pointy stick with which to defend yourself.

"We have now missed 2 training deadlines, and for some reason I've known that we would due to the devil called a "contract". Here is the latest and it hasn't changed, except now we need more Operators. This March 6th, Sortie will pull in 40 vetted Operators in the San Antonio, TX. area to train-up with their local SWAT Team to present what we call a 'dog and pony' show to impress approx 15 members of the Nigerian Delegation that will arrive on March 10th. If this works, the President of Sortie Inc., a Mr. Neil Smith and his # 2, Josh Mendoza, along with 8 of our trusted PSD guys will escort this delegation back to dear Abuja, Nigeria, our next home of record where I'm sure we will work our collective asss'es off, have some fun and make MONEY. There, they will finalize this 1st contract that now measures 1000 seasoned Operators instead of 300. A 2nd contract now exists that calls for 600 TIER 1 types, I'm told these are SEAL Team, Delta and Force Recon Shooters; they have an entirely different mission ops. Once this contract is signed and Mr. Smith collects a bank check to finalize this contract, he will then call me to authorize to move our 1st group that includes the 50 to 60 Advance Team Operators and approx 60 PSD types to Woodville, TX. for training and then deployment. It looks like April 4th. Earlier they had wanted to send 200 to Woodville for training but the 4 companies cadre that will put on this training, which is now 5 companies since we're adding 60 PSD types that has to have some training, actual operations OCONUS and certs with WPPS, PSS and PSD. These companies have said the cadre ration per our operator is too much and to start with 50 to 60 plus the 60 PSD. For now that's all I know and it comes from the Sortie brass. My apologies for being wordy." From one of their "recruiters"...the names of the gentlemen above are also available open source upon further digging.

There are no such things as "Operators" anymore, therefore, they can't carry guns if they don't exist

Agreed, this is the contracting equavilant of the Nigerian email scam.
