In Harm's Way

Flipping through the channels I found this classic coming on at 10:45. I'll be there. One of my favorite JW WWII flicks. Great cast. Henry Fonda, Kirk Douglas, Carroll O'Connor, Burgess Meredith and Patricia Neal who was in a lot of movies with Wayne.

I just saw today that Kirk Douglas is 102 years old. I thought he was long gone. That cast was a great lineup!

As for Duke's war flicks, gotta go with Sands of Iwo Jima. One of the few John Wayne died in.

Whoa spoiler alert!

Hmmm. Haven't watched that in a long time. I thought he was only killed in the Cowboys & Shootist

Does not count as one of the movies JW died in. He was dead when the movie started.

The Sea Chase is also listed as a movie that he dies in - but that is a debatable ending.

Dead is dead...died is died--he was alive in the movie, and he was also dead in the movie. Fuck Hollywood. It counts.

That's the one I was thinking of, good catch to Tracy. Reap the Wild Wind. I seem to remember him drowning as a diver...not one of his best as I recall.

I remember seeing that movie in a movie theater when I was pretty young, smug in the knowledge that he couldn't die.

Broke my heart, when he did.

I love all & any of the old WWII movies. Naval and Submarine warfare. There are so many. JW was in many. He was good in the The Longest Day. So many good actors.

Google listed 6 movies JW died in all listed above. A couple of those debatable.

I saw this about 6 months ago.

I love Midway, Patton amongst a few others I watched with my WW-II Vet grampa, D-Day plus Combat Engineer.

But, tons of good actors and Kirk Douglas's character was different in that it hinted at a flawed hero, then he was portrayed as a possible rapist only to fly off into oblivion.

9/10.

In Harm's Way is excellent. It also has a solid leadership message in the contrast between an authentic fighting Admiral and an Admiral who makes discussions based on failure avoidance.
