Favorite Podcasts

I've been spoiled over the past several years, I didn't travel much in rentals vehicles and when I did hit the road it was always in our POV with satellite radio. Lately I've found myself hitting the road on 7 hr road-trips and going crazy messing with the radio.

Prior to my last trip I download a butt-load of Podcasts and boy what a difference.

I've only listened to a limited amount, but at this point I got to say that Mike Rowes "The Way I Heard It". I've always like this guy.

I listen to Malcome Gladwells podcast and Bigger Pockets (real estate). Also a few by Complete Human Performance, but they get into the weeds on somethings which gets mind numbing for me.

I've been listening to a few podcasts trying to find one's I like.

I tried Jocko. I am sure he is a stud and can probably kill me with his finger, but I just can't get into it. I think the episodes are too long.

I've been seeking out personal finance, and history oriented one's as well.

However, the best one I found so far I was pointed to by my now retired former boss. It is called Crimetown and looks like it will be a series, focusing on local crime stories, over something similar to a TV season. The first series just ended and is about Providence, RI, former and now deceased Mayor Buddy Cianci, and the Providence mob which controlled New England, to include Boston (you would have thought Boston would oversee New England but Providence did).

The story telling is fantastic. It helps that I am local and know a lot of the places, and at least one of the people mentioned in it.

Shoot'n the Bull podcast- Elk hunting that is hilarious

Meateater- Steve Rinella who has written some pretty decent books (American Buffalo is phenomenal)

Hard Core History with Dan Carlin. Really long deep dives of periods of history. The Mongol one is really good.

So my Dad wrote a Porno. A guy's dad writes porno and him and his two friends take turns reading chapters and discussing. Really funny but hard to listen too because of the subject matter.

I pretty much quit listening to the radio and now just load up my little clip sport mp3 play with mass quantities of them. Makes long drives feel like you just teleported.

Joe Rogan is good to go. If you're into hunting and the outdoors, check out the Meateater podcast. Steve Rinella is a good storyteller.

Bill Handel - Handel on the Law

Not a podcast, just a site for all his radio shows, commercial free.

2nd on the Dan Carlin Hardcore history. Awesome podcast. Free downloads that run for 4 hours and it's not dry.

I like Runner's World and ultrarunnerpodcast.com. There's good information in both even if you don't do ultras or other races. The Ultra guy laughs at his own jokes too much.

I find the laughing and personal unrelated stories in podcasts to be annoying. If I click on a topic, give me the topic, not 10 minutes of irrelevant personal information.

Just got addicted to Blinkist. App that breaks great books down into a 15 minute summary, either read, or audio. Worth the $45/year subscription by far.

All selectively listened to based on the guest/topic:
Joe Rogan
Jocko Willinck
Lance Armstrong
Serial

Up and Vanished was good, it's about the largest case file in GA history of a former Beauty pageant queen and high school teacher that went missing outside of Tifton, GA in 2005.

Crime town was another good one. About how the mob and a crooked Mayor ran Providence, RI in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Also recommend S-town, about a genius from a small Alabama town who got the attention of a reporter in NY (I think) by telling him about an unsolved murder that happened...or did it?
