For Hollywood, it's about the money. China likes the money too, but for them it's about exporting the controls on media they enjoy at home. We're going to wake up in 20 years and realize we haven't seen a movie that was critical of China in a long time. There will be an entire generation raised under that measure of censorship during that time, so good luck getting them to realize the threat China represents when we may need them to the most.

Shame too, this is a story that should be told well. I'm sure they're going to get a lot right, but omitting how much national pride was in the effort is leaving a lot off the screen.

Ben Shapiro's podcast did a good take on this issue. As a Canadian, I think it is disgusting to whitewash the context of the moon landing as part of the space program, which was a race against the Soviets.

The fact that history isn't taught at all in the primary school level nothwithstanding, Shapiro's point is that this is all about box office in an international market. I'm just as frustrated when my own country is washed out of history for short-term commercial reasons, the movie U-571 being a prominent example.

The moon landing was faked, and 9/11 was an inside job. Gotta give credit where credit is due ;-p

And of course Oswald didn't act alone.

As for the movie, I'll watch it eventually. The event itself is historical. The movie is just a movie.

If already in a thread I will search, but what was the issue with U-571? Meaning, I don't remember anything being accurate about it other than an enigma machine was captured. Everything else was a fabrication.

You have to watch all the way to the end when the credits start rolling. They show the list of the ships that captured the Enigma machines.

IIRC we were not first and the Brits were more than a bit ticked off with the movie because it more than implied that we were.

Maybe they should have showed the flag.

Link

Of course they say men don't like to come out opening weekend and they'll have a great run for weeks and months to come.

They'd be better off making a movie that was 20 mins long and just showed a planting of the American flag in slow motion.

Watched it yesterday with my wife. Decent flick, decent story. Not great but worth my $8.00 military discount tix. There did appear at one point early on that they were unaware that Armstrong was a military pilot.

I heard an interview with the director this morning and he made it out to be more of a Neil Armstrong story, than a Race to the Moon story. Sounded interesting. There was a good dig though when asked about the flag planting: Seems most of the outrage about that is from people who haven't seen the movie.

Any parts of the movie showing his time as a student at Purdue?

You are right - which is why I'm not watching the movie.

I know where they can plant their world flag.
