A Star Is Born (2018 Version)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSbzyEJ8X9E

Even though this is the 3th remake of this original concept, I think they have a cast that will fill the theaters and probably get some award nominations. Bradley Cooper is directing and staring, and as good as I think he will be, it's the rest of the cast I'm intrigued by.

Without the flamboyance, Lady Gaga is one of the most gifted singer/songwriters of her generation, not to mention quite easy to look at. She'll be playing the female lead. The rest of the supporting cast rounds out with Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and Dave Chappelle (who looks to be in a serious role, not comic relief).

Musically, Willie Nelson's son Lukas and his band are in the film, and some of their music will be in the soundtrack, along with Lady Gaga.

This one has me thinking of waiving my "only go to the movies for Star Trek and James Bond" habit.

I saw the 1976 version with Kris Kristoferson and Barbra Streisand more times than I care to remember. I was working a theater in HS when it came out and they would play that thing continuously for like a month. That was before the age of the cineplex, and our local theater never got the best movies.

Lady Gaga I think would be much more suited to the role than Streisand, although Kristofferson played a pretty convincing rock star playing out the string until the end.

I read an article stating that Babs has final decision-making over the cast and she hand-picked LG.

Didnt see the 1st, doubt I'll see this one.

They filmed Kris Kristofferson's big concert scene at an actual concert going on that day, Ronnie Montrose performing at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. That was probably my favorite scene from the movie (I had to endure it enough times, for sure).

Kris Kristofferson finished the scene by riding a motorcycle off the stage and into the crowd. Or at least his stunt double did.

First part of the scene:

I thought the sections with Kristofferson did a pretty good job of depicting the insanity of being a huge rock star back in the 70s. Overall, though, the movie more or less sucked.

I remember thinking, "How can they have a 34 year old Streisand playing an ingénue?"

Any thread that has Barbara Streisand, Nickleback, Lady Gaga, & Coldpay all in the first few posts deserves to be closed.
