"1917"

"At the height of the First World War during Spring 1917 in northern France, two young British soldiers are given a seemingly impossible mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich. The two recruits race against time, crossing enemy territory to deliver the warning and keep a British battalion of 1,600 men from walking into a deadly trap...."

Due for release in December, looks pretty good...

Some fascinating background on how the movie was filmed to look like one continuous shot

The critics are saying this movie is great...
And it got 93% on Rotten Tomatoes which I have found to be a good gauge.

I’m definitely seeing this one.
In theaters on Christmas.

Good movie with an unexpected (to me, at least) twist or two.

I agree, I watched it yesterday. I recommend catching it on Redbox.

"1917"

My wife and I saw it yesterday. She suggested a movie and this is the one she picked. That surprised me because she is usually not one to like war movies or almost any sort of military shows/movies.

I am generally not super interested in things prior to World War II. I would also suggest waiting for whatever your post movie theater streaming service of choice is!

The cinematography and editing were great, the storyline itself was mediocre and predictable.

Maybe I'm just getting soft in my middle age- but this was the first war movie I ever saw that was shocking and unpleasant to me. Maybe it was just the way they filmed it, with the single track shot.

Maybe it was just the entire futility and waste of human life for nothing that has finally gotten to me.

Either way- great flick- not much in the way of story, just very straightforward and visceral, and unpleasant.

That is a pretty good summation of WWI in one sentence.

Good flick. Won a couple of awards.

As others have stated- sad tale of lives lost for what...
