What bullshit. Another Army fiasco to fund a worthless action by raping the rest of the Army to pay for this shit. Just like AFC.

This goes right up there with the ASP, Golden Homos, and the Soldier show........

We just did another budget deep dive for more cuts...........

I'm currently in a Grad program for sport/performance psych with my interest being in elite level performance. I was in the midst of a course looking at Motor Learning and Performance when the article regarding the Army esports came out. In one of the classroom discussions, a classmate brought up the use of sport psychs in the esport realm. My first response was, "Dafuq" is this dude talking about??? I personally can't wrap my brain around this initiative by the Army. Perhaps I'm a little long in the tooth but I'm okay with that.

This is some damned serious business. I think pulled a muscle laughing.

Glad I’m retired.

I didnt join the Army to play video games. And I have soldiers to lead and mentor. That requires enough time, dedicating the extra hours to practice a video game I play on my down time would suck. I play online when I have the extra time. But I'm really leaning towards not doing it. I can set up a profile on twitch or YouTube and stream my games live for people to watch without the Army dictating my life any more than it already does. Plus I could make money from twitch or YouTube.

I'm an Infantryman. My heart is invested in doing that until I retire. Or I'm too broken to carry on.

I feel old. None of this even makes sense to me. Watching people play video games on YouTube?

Yep, you wouldn’t believe how much money some of these guys make. Staggering sums of money. In the millions of dollars annually.

Recruiting Command thought it would be a hoot to mass email the info out to all the Joe's at USAICoE......and personalize the emails so it looked like some really good spam.

I had folks calling my office (ATO) and our OPSEC Office trying to figure out if it was real our not so they could tell their Joe's what to do.

I called Recruiting Command and got "It's Legit" from them as I rolled my freaking eyes....

I wonder if they need any GS employees to help them out..?

You think the guys that stream on Twitch make a lot? Just look at the girls that stream on Twitch. I've heard of thirsty guys buying these girls $1k purses and expensive clothes and crap like that.

It's crazy.

The top earners are making around $10 million a year between Twitch/YouTube. A lot of these guys start with gaming then introduce vlogs/challenges/music videos to their channels.

I believe they are referred to as “influencers”.

It was only a matter of time, almost every ODA that I knew had a game box full of various consoles. I'm a gamer (not so much now) and I was part of the E-6, and 7 mafia that played games on deployments, JCETS, etc.

I didn't start playing xBox until we were stuck in Colorado after our first trip to AF. That was some fun.

The Army can suck the fun out of any activity if given enough latitude. This will be no different in the end.
