I'm not a big range shooter so actually, I'd say after a box of fifty or so with a handgun. I take these manic spells where I go on a gun cleaning binge from time to time. I do the same with knife sharpening.

There's no comparison between black powder and smokeless guns. BP needs cleaning every time they're fired, but that's centuries old tech. S/F....Ken M

If I have been on the range, firing, prior to leaving I will swab the barrel with oil an lube everything else. As I might get to it when I get home.

I took one of my manic spells yesterday and tore down 4 shotguns and cleaned them. Also, I hit up a couple Glocks.

My buddies 12 y/o is currently tearing down my Glock 10mm and hooking it up for me as Im watching some NASCAR action.

He put 20 rds through it today. Boy is in a single parent household. Cool kid. He was nailing some targets with the 45/70 yesterday. Kid aint afraid of shit. Not even a flinch.

That would really be weird if his name was John Connor!

That is quite a bullet for the 12 year old young man. Very nice.

I clean my G17 about twice a year whether it needs it or not. When I used to teach shooting a lot sometimes I'd put several hundred rounds a week thru it and not touch it for weeks. Glocks aren't pretty or sexy, but they're fucking tough.

I typically clean them after each range session. Sometimes a quick wipe and lubrication, if needed, a more thorough cleaning. What I don't get is these guys that think they are gunfighters because they never clean their weapons. Like its a some badge of courage. I know some guns need to be a bit gummed up, but going years without cleaning a weapon and then bragging abut it is irresponsible.
