Good Fuck it was Lording cold...

My fingers have just come back up to ambient so I can actually type.

30F, not bad; gusting to 20mph and I could not get the drift. I think the wind was pushing the water backed up into the dam.

Low flow, but the water looks like it used to when I could catch fish on the Smith.

Thanks for the hospitality.

All my best,

S

Days like that should be spent watching a cork. An upside down one out of a good bottle of bourbon.

What Does one do with big bass like that, I am thinking stuff and mount.

I have caught some smaller ones and they were very tasty.

I love to eat small bass. 10-14". I don't care much for big ones, from a taste or a conservation standpoint.

Last bass I caught was around 12 to 13 inches. I soaked him in butter milk, he came out of an old stinky retention pond, and then I released him to the pan. He was quite good.

I maybe caught one Bass that size, I think at Toledo Bend Resovoir. Not many Largemouth in my AO, but near the best Smallmouth fishing in the country. I don't eat em, but anything under 11" is Mudcat bait along with the Mudcat's arch nemesis, the Rock Bass. (Redeye)

Rock bass/red eye... I might need a translation on that one.

Around here, rock bass is a white bass hybrid and a redeye is some sort of bluegill.

I’ll have to look up the author later...

Ounce for ounce, Bluegill is the hardest fighting fish you can find.

They are Goggle-Eye where I am from. They are good fighters for their size. There are plenty of them at Toledo Bend.

Yep, same species. Different lingo. Very aggressive and will hit about anything whether they can swallow it or not. Average size is like a big hand size bluegill.

Sharky if that’s on Toledo Bend I need to pick his brain. I’m heading down there for a week first part of March with 12 guys. Our annual bass fishing trip. Even though I’m only a couple hours from it I don’t get to fish it that often and it intimidates the hell out of me. Send help...

I can't enlarge that pic in background large enough to tell for sure. But it looks a lot like Toledo Bend.
