RIP NICK

EODC Nick Null was killed while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. In 02 when he was a new guy we worked together for a few months. He was a great Tech and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He made Chief this year and would have been pinned Sept 16th.

Parkersburg native among Americans killed in Afghan helicopter crash

By Staff, wire reports

The Charleston Gazette

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Parkersburg native is among 30 Americans and eight Afghans killed Saturday in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, according to published reports and web postings on social networking sites.

Nick Null was the father of three boys and had a wife, Tanya, according to Facebook posts and a relative's obituary on the WTAP news website in Parkersburg.

He served in the Navy and was identified on Facebook as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialist. It was not immediately clear if Null was one of 17 Navy SEALS or one of five members of the naval special warfare forces -- identified by The Navy SEAL Foundation -- as among those killed.

One man, Justin Taylor, wrote on Null's memorial site on Facebook: "Montani Semper Liberi. Thank you and your family for your sacrifice. I consider it an honor to have played baseball with a future American Hero."

When asked about honoring Null in West Virginia, Jacqueline Proctor, a spokeswoman for Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin, who is acting as governor, said "the governor's office will respond appropriately" only after they hear about the family's wishes.

The Navy SEAL Foundation is accepting donations to help the families of the fallen Seals.
