You need more than a VPN, but I can delve into that later.

The government is trying to weaken encryption again:

The FBI Director can go suck a dick. These people are such BS artist, shill, authoritarians. I'd like one of these "OMG we're all gonna die" (...still waiting, been 17 years since the poster child for the stomping of liberty occurred) Chicken Little's to tell me how they are going to prevent strongly encrypting anything? It's f'n open source programming, morons - you gonna make people forget how to do math? And here's the kicker - legit bad guys *will* always thwart you, it's the slaves that will run the insecure shit...so what is this *really* about? Duh, control, just like SB said earlier. Just precious - the *government* wants weak encryption - oh, ok, guess 1776-1787 was just a big ole' faux pa. This just in: The government wants the locations of anything you have ever buried somewhere...

On a related note, I see the House of Authoritarians passed the 'NSA Can Do What They Want Bill', also known as the 'Fuck Your 4th Amendment Act of 2018'. I thought shit was supposed to change? Can't this be vetoed once it reaches the Prez's desk? What's he gonna do

I think he's a fan because he may mistakenly believe, like so many of his predecessors, that the IC works for him.

There's no way I see him vetoing this abortion.

Maxine Waters: ‘Obama Has Put In Place’ Secret Database With ‘Everything On Everyone’

"The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life," Representative Maxine Waters told Roland Martin on Monday.

"That's going to be very, very powerful," Waters said. "That database will have information about everything on every individual in ways that it's never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that.

They're going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can't get around it. And he's [President Obama] been very smart. It's very powerful what he's leaving in place."

"On Thursday, the Senate voted 65-34 to reauthorize a FISA provision that allows U.S. spy agencies to conduct surveillance on foreign targets abroad for six years."

I am not sure these journalist understand what FISA is.

Most probably don't, and the rest would rather that their readers didn't. When a media outlet serves as a propaganda arm for the government, a political party, etc., its reporters depend for their livelihoods on people reading what that outlet has to offer. Should the readers start to disbelieve the propaganda, they might start reading something else instead, which translates into lost revenue and lost jobs for journalists. Therefore, we've always been at war with Eastasia, and two plus two is five.

The word "abroad" in that sentence pretty much proves they don't. FISA is basically about intercepting foreigners in the U.S. and Americans anywhere. No FISA warrant is needed for foreigners abroad.
