Went fly fishing for the first time last weekend. Drift boat charter on the Feather River in California for Steelhead. Hooked up to about 35 between four of us, only landed two in the net and neither was mine. Had a blast, but it looks like I picked up yet another expensive hobby....

Went fishing the other afternoon on the lake but didn't do crap. There was a group of gentlemen at the ramp that have formed a fly fishing club/tournament thing. They seem to have a blast and said they catch everything from bream to strippers on the lakes in central Alabama.

Got to love tablets and spell check. Just got to know which bars on the lakes to hit.
You would not believe how many times I have slid in a slough and saw things on pontoon boats I wish I could erase from memory.

See? I don't even know the vernacular yet . I guess it was drift fishing, using a fly rod. It was enough to get me to buy a fly set up. Now I just need to learn what the heck I'm doing.

My WV trout trip last week was a bust, heavy rain F'd us pretty good. Today I loaded up my jet boat and hit the New River. Two of us caught over 50 smallies. Nothing over 2lb, but it was still a good day on the water. Somebody worked today, and it wasn't me.

First barracuda on a fly rod. Not big but sporty. Caught a few needlefish too in the short amount of time I had.

Now that's a Cuda Just had to man.
Not on the fly though. Amazing that this fish and other Cuda I've known will hang right under our boat just waiting for us to catch the right fish. Apparently, we both consider the same fish as the tastiest . We would catch non target species like grunts or lizard fish and lady fish but as soon as we got a snapper or grouper near the boat the Cuda would attack and leave the head for us. So I fed him one. With a shark hook strategically placed.
This is in Islamorada, FL Keys.

Nice cuda! We were in Key West. Was mostly to hang out with friends but I always take my saltwater rod with me.

I have good friends who live in Islamorada.
