He passed away a few years ago. I like his book the best of SOF gun reviews.

Me too. The 'published' written word is dead and on life-support. Not because there are no writers either.
The stats on the amount of video being consumed is staggering.
As is the stats on the time that a person will spend reading an article.
When ML suggested I get video reviews from folks, he wasn't kidding. People prefer by a large margin to buy a product represented via video vs. written word.

I do know, as do all here, that a bunch of numb-nuts do not do video well and waste our time. But there are at least an equal amount of folks who are doing video well and garnering an audience for that format & making money doing so.

Gun rags in magazine form are on their way out. They do not have to die though, all they need to do is rethink their format, delivery and value.

YMMV

Although I don't buy gun magazines anymore, I kind of like American Handgunner.
My brother bought me a two year subscription to Revoil as a gift. So I do enjoy reading it. Though probably would not spend my own money on a subscription. But it is like the magazine is really one big catalog/advertisement for the latest tactical-cool guns and gear.

GarandThumb on You tube gives some really good and honest reviews. But I have found nothing in writing from him other than social media postings.

Disappointing but not surprising. He seemed to already be 500 years old when I read SOF back in the 80s.

Gun Tests Magazine is the only one that's worth a crap IMO. They test guns, and give them an A to F grade. They do not accept advertising.

How is he a poser? He started a holster business in his garage and clearly states he has no mil or LE background whenever interviewed.

I’ve watched everything he has put out there. I don’t see a poser. What I do see is an excellent shooter who doesn’t make any bogus claims.

He's been caught speeding up his film. Made some disrespectful remarks about military folks. No real world experience just a tac-fanboy. Where's he been for 17 years?

I ditched Recoil a few years ago when they had an anti-gun brain fart after the Sandy Hook business. FMG publications tend to be ok, but also a marketing bias for the manufacturers (like anything published by the NRA).
If I want a review, I usually ask someone here.

Interesting in that over a year ago Kroger/Payless removed all gun magazines. I complained as did others. They made a public move stating removing. Well, guess what....they are all back on the shelves now! CVS still has banned them though.

I happen to agree with his comments, which butt hurt vets took out of context. He's right, many vets can't shoot and are too lazy to train.

As to speeding up his vids, if true, so what? Go shoot next to him to show him how it's done.

Understood, won't happen again my apologies to the board.

He's ever in my AO I will challenge him. And I'll use irons and a stock weapon. I just feel speeding up film shows a lack of integrity. One shouldn't have to do that

I watched his explanation for his statement concerning Vets and he was spot on. There was nothing he said that was incorrect.

He is a competitive shooter and holds his own. Like SB said, as to his speeding up the camera for video purposes...I don't know, but I have seen video that he intentionally sped up and it was noticeable. When watching his videos where he is shooting with others, there is no evidence that his portion is sped up in the slightest in comparison. Not sure why the rumors started, but haters are gonna hate....

I like Handloader and Rifle magazines in paper, I miss the old Ross Seyfried and Finn Aagard articles.

I prefer the more technical writing, most gun crap is written at the sub-95 IQ level, peddling ostentatious junk to bust out's looking to impress their baby mamas. S/F....Ken M

The above quoted portion was a mistake on my part. He is NOT a competitive shooter. I was thinking of someone else when I typed that specific portion; however, the rest of the post was about him (Botkin)....

Ol trex makes no bones about not being a gun fighter. Little dude can shoot no matter what he does with his camera. I like The Warrior Poet as well, despite his video(s) with what's his dick that ran away when his convoy was hit.
