New MARSOC badge

I saw this posted on the MARSOC facebook page. The link to the referred article (on marines.mil) was mangled - but I figured it out.

Here is the actual link. Awarded to past and future CSOs.

The device is not shown on that link, however. Here is the device as shown on the MARSOC fb page:

Speaking of badges I wish the CAP Badge( VN era) would be authorized foe wear if the Marines ever ramped up our platoons again.

That's one funky badge. It's nearly devoid of traditional USMC tradition except for the Southern Cross, not well known and not universal. You can tell absolutely nothing about the wearer, the qualification, or the community. Very strange.

With that said, I'm glad to see the uniform board get something approved that recognizes a unique MOS group.

I'm indifferent to badges, berets and other shiny shit. Either way, haters are gonna hate and some belt fed 1stSgt or SgtMaj will loose his shit when he see's it, which makes me happy.

That looks like a Recon badge. The USMC establishment has a longstanding dislike for the Recon community. I doubt they would ever approve anything like that.

It's also my understanding that there is (or was at one time) a significant portion of the MARSOC leadership that would rather not acknowledge that MARSOC came to be via Recon. As evidenced by their choice to jump back 60 years to adopt a lineage from the Raiders.

Isn't it sad that egos get in the way and ruin good things!

I can't seem to grasp the reason as to why those kinds of things matter to so many and the fact that they play those games. I saw it and know that it exists, I simply think that it's the games that three-year-olds play and then want to consider themselves to be warriors.

In a service that has historically been so "badge adverse", I'm surprised our Corps is buying off on this. SOTB would back me up were he here, but IME very few Marines wore their bling on a day-to-day basis. I rarely wore my AC wings on my utilities.

So since USMC uniform state only 2 badges I assusme CSOs will wear the new badge and the combat dive badge. or Just the CSO raider badge. Hell I never wore my crap unless the SgtMaj was jumping on my case for not wearing it. This is assuming its senior to combat dive and Naval jump wings

I would lie about my age, and falsify documents, just to be able to go back and enlist in the USMC to get that badge - totally bad ass.

As to the new badge, well, I always in many ways admired the USMC for how their uniform looked more clean, with just the Recon Marine's scuba badge and jump wings.

I bet those Raiders of WW2 were waiting on the Corps to come out with a badge. Having 2-3 ribbons their chests was enough.
My CAR,PH,VSR umm all I need

Macka disapproves. It has always been a source of pride for me as a former Marine for NOT having patches and badges and ropes and etc all over.

Here's the original design they submitted, not sure why it was disapproved.

According the Washington Post (yea, I know) here is the how the new badge was chosen: Link here. Apparently the badge was designed by a MARSOC Captain.

Interesting that in the entire article the word "Recon" or "Reconnaissance" does not appear once. That's just bizarre to me. It also mentions how pilots, EOD and a small number of Marines can wear the combat diver bubble... but again no mention of the bubble/wings for Recon. It's like they are deliberately excluding the Recon lineage.

So help me out here then. Is Force Recon still in existence? Same mission, training as before? Or has all of that been replaced by MARSOC, and MARSOC taking on many of the missions (and funding) that Force Recon use to have? Or Force still in existence, still working at Corps. level, and has not been diminished? Competition then between both for eligible recruits?
