RIP Sir.

Unknown to me at the time I met Maj Greer in OEF in 2001. On JOC watch late one night he came in and started talking to me. He told me that he failed the US by not getting Bin Laden. As an E-4 I didn't know what to say. I just said that we'd get him eventually and that he shouldn't beat himself up. I didn't know who he was until I read Killing Bin Laden and put two and two together.

He didn't fail the US. The Pentagon, CIA and the State Dept failed him.

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.

Like I wrote, they broke the mold. That is true leadership and dedication right there. Took full responsibility, even as everyone else knew that it was not his fault.

With men such as this, the impossible is within reach.

God bless Tom Greer. Fuck cancer.
