Hmmm. My Mandarin came from DLI 30 years ago.

DLI focused less on "Which way to the train station" and more on "What a nice rifle you have".

So, I'm not so hot at conversational Mandarin but I could give it a shot.

TNTF, you can try the local university or college for a Mandarin interpreter. I think ATF also has a dialup/video call up for Mandarin interpreter. Probably not too secure.
