Who do we have in New York?

Joe Mattison's son Adam is going to drive from GA to NY to secure his Dads guns and make the necessary arrangements for his Dads funeral. He is reaching out for assistance as this is not something he has done before and I know from personal and very recent experience that he is not mentally ready for this right now. I have a house full of family from both sides or I would go myself. Is there anyone in upstate NY who could help Adam out?

My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

Sharky what is the time frame on his arrival? I owe a phone call to an Old Scroll in upstate NY, he's also the editor of Patroling Magazine. Send me what you have and I'll run it past him, see if he's free, and get back to you as soon as I know either way.

Long guns should be no problem, unless they are not NY SAFE compliant. Even then, take them and leave NY. Pistols might be trickier- there is no legal way to remove them from NY without a NY permit. The right thing is to notify the Sheriff and have them transferred to a FFL wherever he is (GA?). If no one has taken them, it might be easier to just take them and exit NYS quickly and quietly.

Sharky I made a couple calls. Just received a call back from a friend in DC who told me Jeff Mellinger is taking care of everything from his AO. Is this current to what you know or are we still needing a LU in NY?

Jeff is dealing with getting the info out to the public so Adam doesn't have to deal with so many people. He said he is going to secure the weapons, put the Jeep and motorcycle up for sale, deal with the funeral home, square the house away, deal with the furniture etc. He has very little time to get all that done and get back in the road headed south.

And FYI I didn't check with Jeff on this. The request for assistance came directly from Adam. I'm not sure where Jeff is located and I think what Adam is looking for is some physical help at the house. I would also say from recent experience that it is good to have someone with you at the funeral home who isn't so emotionally attached as the funeral home will try to sell you everything under the sun and most of it is not needed.

That's about 7 hours away. Let me see what I can do to scrounge up some gas money to get there and back but I'll thumb it back if I have to and get my truck back later.

I apologize if an outsider like me has offended anyone by offering to help. Not a Ranger but we're all brothers and I'll do what I can. I can lift stuff if he needs physical help like that.

Much appreciated brother but that is a long haul. Let me see if I can get a couple of guys who are closer. If I can't I will certainly reach out to you.

Good info. I will pass it along.

Maybe at a later date for the funeral. I think he had to drive this time to haul stuff back to GA. Awesome offer though. Thank you.

I'm just over 4hrs, let me know and I'll go. If he's passing my way we can link up. If you get someone closer he can still use my place as a rest stop.

Still working this. I volunteer with The Darby Project and have reached out to see who's in that area. Emails are being sent back and forth and we're doing our best to set something up with a couple guys. More to follow later. Merry Christmas all.
