Exclamation Sen. Iraq/Syria Advisor, $125K+, SECRET, Baghdad

Very cool job assisting USG DoD with the cultural nuisnaces within the Iraq/Syria relationship and how that relates to effecting DoD interests and deliverables in theater.

Period of Performance: 1 Year + Option

Salary: $105K Base, 70% Uplifts, ~$125-$145,000 including 330 day tax exclusion

Location: Baghdad

Work Load: Estimated to be required 80 hours per week which equates to 3,840 hours per year.

Min Requirements


Iraq/Syria Cultural SME

· Bachelor’s degree in any field with at least a minor in Middle Eastern studies

· 5 years’ experience informing and briefing members of DoD on the historical, political, military, cultural, religious, and economic conditions and factors of Iraq or Syria.

· 6 months experience working in Iraq or Syria within the past 3 years.

· 3 years’ experience briefing and preparing written products for senior leaders (general officer/flag officer/senior executive service level)

· Current DoD Secret clearance


Senior Iraq/Syria Cultural Advisor: Ensure deploying SOF gain effective cultural understanding, background and historical knowledge during their SOJTF pre-deployment training. Apply cultural, linguistic and historical expertise to mission analysis and planning. As required, advise SOJTF-OIR commander and staff on cultural, religion and other issues. Tasks include:

Provide relevant professional information concerning the historical, political, military, cultural, religious, and economic conditions and factors that personnel deploying to Operation Inherit Resolve in support of SOF may encounter.
Provide information of key events, civilizations, empires, and personalities in Iraq or Syria’s history, and the critical role these factors perform in the current mission.

Provide information on the importance of the local perspective and perceptions, contrasted against the U.S. perspective or perception, and how these differences and commonalities impact our ability to accomplish SOF objectives.
Provide information on the main features of Iraq or Syria’s physical geography, understand the key aspects of various regions and how their location influence SOF operations.
Produce clear well written presentations, plans, briefings and papers to government personnel.

Support the commander and staff in any capacity related to the cultural environment of current operations.
Assist in hosting/chairing meetings, visitations or conferences related to SOJTF-OIR operations, plans, emerging special operations opportunities and other initiatives.
Position is located in Baghdad, Iraq with travel required within the OIR Theater of operations.
