So, members of SOCNET, what is the concensus on a nice pair of "casual" sunglasses? I'm looking for something that doesn't scream "I'm military" (ie not Oakleys) or "I'm a giant douche" (ie not.. well I don't want to offend anyone )...but still of course looks cool

I don't know why but, for some reason, I see you in these...MeatLasagna Cool Guy Shades
Don't say I never did anything for you.

Other than that, I got nothing. I wear Oaks because it is cost effective. i.e. $Free.99

Costa Del Mar

Because I don't need ballistic protection on a daily basis anymore and I try to be surrounded by water when the weather is nice. But I still have Oakley's for putting a few rounds out for fun.

I'm through with spending +$100 on sunglasses, just to sit on them, lose them, have them stolen, etc. But I still like nice shades -- THESE are very similar to the ones I have now -- mine are the same model name, but slightly different arms. Also, I didn't spend $45, I spent $10. All types of stores offer deals on overstocked items....

Thanks. Coincidentally, I went the same route and got a pair of Kenneth Cole Reactions a couple days ago. I didn't pay $10 though, it was more of an impulse buy at the mall.

OK, I tried to scrub the post to make sure this wasn't a repeat. Oakley has a sight dedicated to Military & Gov't, many of the prices are well below retail. Follow the instructions (you have to prove military) to get access. You can browse the materials but until approved the prices don't show up. A good deal for the military!

Has anyone had an issue with Oakley's standard issue? Every model is backordered. Has that ever happened?

I picked up a couple of pair of Foster Grants at the local drugstore, 2 for 1, 13.00 total for both of them. If I lose or break either one of them, no great loss.

Both black frames, 100% UV protection and don't slip off when I'm wearing them. One pair is a reproduction of the Ray Ban Wayfarer style.

Might be the best sunglasses I've bought in awhile. My last two pair of Ray Bans have me swearing off that brand forever.

Backordered

I've ordered a number of items from Oakley SI (Boots, Sunglasses, gloves). The one item I ordered that never seemed to come in was the goggles with the built in fan. I eventually just cancelled the order and went with a different goggle.

http://www.gatorz.com/ if you like wraps, these are it. I'm a huge fan of these glasses - they're a little steep (120) but they last. American made, very rugged with double hinges and a superior fit that really hugs - and the metal is flat enough to wear under a helmet and not notice.

I have worn darn Oakley's for so long, I feel nekkid without them.
Usually the older issue style M-Frames, but I have tried out a few smaller, less military looking designs as well.
For water ops, polarized are great, but they scratch to darn easily.

I'm rather fond of Revision. http://www.revisioneyewear.com/

They make good eye-pro and their customer service is outstanding.

I had 2 pairs that I beat the crap out of and scratched the lenses. I contacted them to see if I could by replacement lenses and they sent me two complete pairs of glasses FOC.

That said, they don't offer many different designs so your a bit limited there.

Smith Optics has a 50%-off Pro Deal for MIL/LE. You can order direct from Smith or go through http://www.promotive.com. The polarchromic glass lenses are superb for the times you don't need ballistic protection.

A few months back I was given a set of Rudy Project glasses. It came in a zippered hardcase and 3 different lenses. Two of the lenses are Photochromic and they are simply bad ass. I have been wearing them for everything I do. Shooting, driving and hiking. Needless to say my Oakleys have been retired.
