Go ahead and laugh.....

So my background basically consists of American boxing, wrestling, and BJJ.........

Today I signed on to take Wing Chun lessons......

Don't ask me why, but I have always been interested in Kung Fu, and Wing Chun in particular. After a lot of research, I found a really reputable instructor, and am going to give it a shot.....

Will update on how it goes......

I can hear you laughing.....quit it.

Wing Chun is very good and your striking skills from boxing will come in handy with it.

Proper Wing Chun focuses on striking quite a bit.

I may not be able to reach your face, but I'll give your knees hell.....

I shoulda known better......LOL

I still roll with the BJJ guys, but have let the striking portion of my game slide the past few years. Rather than get back into boxing (I'm waaaaay too pretty for that), I thought I would give another striking art a shot.

I've always been impressed with the trapping/blocking/control techniques of Wing Chun, so I started shopping around.

And can anyone tell me why the best schools are always at least an hour away? Is that karma? LOL

LOL.

I almost asked the instructor if he could teach me how to rip the beating heart out of a man's body, but I then thought better of it.

Wing Chun is great...I wish I still had time to study...one of these days, after life settles down (yeah right...like that will ever happen...maybe when I retire?) I'd love to get back into it.

At least you're doing something to better yourself -- staying active and making yourself that much more well rounded.

I swear I run into guys at least once a week who tell me they've been doing some sort of MMA for the past ### of years, when we get to the gym, whether it be a striking day or just to roll a bit, out come the excuses....

The fakers in martial arts world far exceed any bogus military claims IMO.
Of course, all the talk goes out the window when you step in the ring. I had the pleasure of disproving quite a few that actually decided to "put their money where their mouth" is back when there was still a mystery to karate/martial arts and PKA (and WKA) full-contact were just taking off on ESPN.

If you achieve a level of expertise in any combative you can take something away from any "style" or martial art. It's not good to bounce around to many times but if you have achieved a good base in wrestling and boxing then Wing Chun can only enhance your overall skill levels if taken in the context of "combatives".

Wing Chun saved this guy from his vengeful girlfriend. She'd taped a Samurai sword underneath the bed and after he fell asleep she started stabbing and hacking at him with it.

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/2018...ord-police-say

Actually, I found the victim's comment when he was interviewed later pretty funny, It's been awhile since I'd heard a martial arts style being used as a verb.

Quote:
Lovell woke to his girlfriend of two years attacking him with a sword, police say. Survival instincts -- mainly martial arts training and all the Kung Fu films he had watched -- clicked in.

"I was able to wing chun my way to survival," he told the Oregonian/OregonLive in an interview this week over Facebook messenger, referring to a Chinese martial art.

And I noticed right after I posted that somebody put the same story in humor.

Double Whammy!

I am partial to Wing Chun.

Been practicing now for around 25 years on and off, and I currently own and run a Wing Chun Boxing school in Indiana. If anyone has questions about Wing Chun training, feel free to PM me.
