The Great Waldo Pepper

(Netflix Instant).

I was hoping that the Rocketeer was on instant but it wasn't. Came across this Robert Redford flick about barnstormers in the early days of Aviation after WWI.

Good story, great flying - even as dated as it was I got queasy watching the "outside loop"

If you're a fan of aviation films, esp early aviation, it's definitely worth your time.

One of the most underappreciated flying movies ever made, IMO -- mostly for the flying scenes. No CGI in those days.

Classic.

No shit! I loved that movie when I was a kid.
But I hated the scene were his friend crashed and burned (literally) trying the outside loop.

I remember that one as a kid. Another great aviation film is "Blue Max" with George Peppard. I remember flipping thru the channels and saying "Holy shit! It's Hannibal from the A-Team!"

Saw The Great Waldo Pepper when it first came out (in a drive-in, BTW) and haven't seen it since. Good film.

Likewise, The Blue Max is a superb film.

Just checked out the DVD, going to watch it this weekend. Haven't seen it in at least 20 years or more.

I recall it being a pretty good movie, an interesting look at the fading days of barnstorming as the modern world of aviation is taking shape.
